hi everybody
Im about to buy monitors, but Im not sure what to buy now. After comparing Gens 8030, Dynaudio BM5A, Adam A7 and Yamaha MSP7... I left only this two options, considering the freq. range and the feel of the bass. Ill use them to produce psytrance, so Ill need crystal clear hi freqs and a good bassssss. So, they are almost the same price, Yamahas is 200USdls more expensive than Adam, but its ok. SO, could you help me deciding pls? I have only this week to dicide... hehe... cheers!! |

Is this a joke? Is there a hidden cam to record my face while I even consider thinking about the answer??
He he....Adam is a ferrari near the beettle-yamaha unit....
Your budget should be around U$1000 to afford it, right?
Anyway, I d still think about achieving at least 8" low speaker unit, like the mackie HR824, if your roon has space for it. Although many people here use to choose 6 or 6,5" inches low speakers, dance music is made to be played at big systems, soh the low end is really important. I have a 6,5" low speaker active monitor but I m looking into changing it for a Event/mackie/ 8"low driver, once altough people keep saying the opposite, is not an easy task to work the real low end of trance/dance music with small speakers, no matter if its genelec or dynaudio.
Everytime I take my mixes to my friends professional studio, I feel how I don t have many choices to work bottom low end so freely. Cause some of these frequencies are more to be felt than to be heard. BTw, my friend has 15" tannoy monitors. I wish I could work with such a nice monitor....
I m not saying that bm5, bm6 or a7 won t do a perfect job as well. I only mean that in my opinion a nice and flat 8" low speaker will probably bring low frequencies around 35Hz(mackie hr824 - 39Hz and event asp8 35Hz), while 6 to 6'5 usually begin at 45 to 50 Hz(adam A7 - 46Hz, dynaudio Bm5 50Hz for example).
If you work in a small room...you d have to go for smaller monitors anyway...I think one important issue is that the produce should learn the monitor s behavior, so you can even mix thourgh less accurate monitors. Mixing is always good to be made like comparing reference works, cause when you listen to a track you know really well at your monitors, you ll learn how does it reproduces that track with it s own identity, cause even the flattest monitor on earth has is own identity for sure compared to others...
peace. |

well, i use msp5 as a reference monitor, and to tell you the true, this is the next standart studio monitor...opps...thay did it again , joking, but if you are after main monitor go for Genelec 8040/50 (depend on what you need) or the Bm5a or bm6 if you have more $$$.
btw ess765 , i dont think this is a joke, the msp7 sounds realy realy good if you know what to look for.

thanks for your comments. Now, the question was because even the freq. range of both is almost the same, and the size too, and the 6.5" cone, I think they dont sound the same. In Adam the hi frqs. are beautiful! very accurate, but the punch is not so good because the 50W in the woofer, comparing to the 80" in the Yamaha. I know Adam is more specialized in monitors, but the Yamahas sound good too. SO.... heelllpppp!!! hehe, thanks

thats is a good thing for me, if its to loud so cut abit to make it sound good, know the limits of your monitor, its all about you man all about you, if you dont know sound then you just dont know it.

2 days, ok, so you call it expiriance with the monitor?, i guass not, from 2 days you cant tell nothing!!!, i have them over 3 years man, and i just love them.
thats your problem that you cant sound good on them, and thats the all point in Yamaha monitors, and to tell you the true, i prefer to make bass on msp5 then bm6 (funny ahh, but true). So, *..* go for what YOU like and not others!!!
cheers & good luck |

sorry , when anything below 160hz vibrates , its not me its the monitor... or you say clean all that off your kick and bass is good thing ???? where mackie hr8 sounds 100% right , the msp5 might brake
may be you like thin sound , i like my bass fat and chunky.and alot of monitors alow me to do so and get fat final result! (and yeah im prfectly aware to "too much sub" problems.)
and no , i dont think its my problem , after expirience of 4 years on tannoy reveal , 2 years with yamaha ns-10 (msp not even70% as good imo), and 6 months with event percission 6 and 8 ! (not to mention playing my original stuff over 3 years on big PA systems)
after all this , i find it hard to believe the problem is mine.
if you enjoy them tho.. why not. my opinion is mine , yours is yours.
and if you notice , i talk about 5" , may be the 7" (probably) handle bass more logicly. www.sattelbattle.com

first, lol, 2nd, yes its a good thing to roll off those freq's to make it sound good on this monitor bcuz this is a "5" monitor if you forgot, what you hear in "5" monitor you can't hear on "8" monitor, in "5" you can hear the whole mix compression, track balance even use it as a mono or D check monitor and much more....

LOLOL, this only shows me that you dont know what your talking about.
did you tast msp5 with other monitors in the same room??? i did, i tast them with NS10m, Genelec8020, DynaudioBM6, Tannoy Reveal(A) LS6.5(by yoram lev), M-audio SP8B, Event20/20 and with other surround systems..
MSP5 is a Vintege monitor comper to others, its may be not the best monitor and it may sounds abit thin but you should comper it with others and hear the different.

incase you forget , the point of studio monitor is to get balanced mix that will sound good anywhere , not just on the specific monitor u use. it meens that with msp5 your music will sound thin on other systems (aka peaple's stereo , PA).
well whatever if you argue with me that highpass 160hz your bass and kick so enjoy highpass music , i dont.
and beside , evry other user replied suport the adam over msp , but still as i said in my very first post , its matter of TASTE. www.sattelbattle.com
