hey guys,
im having some extra bassy tracks made in my pathetic excuse of a studio.
i dont have any cash to sound isolate so i thought i would figure out the room eqs at the back of the adam a7s...
does anyone know how to configure those to the room?
i have 2 knobs, one for below 150 hz and one for above 6khz. and one tweeter knob which i dont want to fuck with (i think) so im concerned about the below 150 hz how do i fix this so my tracks are perfect....im sure there is a method
if someone could help me out that would be fantastic
thanks guys

Listen to a track that you really know good..and then adjust the eq until it sounds right for you..do that on high volume..

Basstraps is the best solution. There is probably bad resonance at certain low end frequencies, and i can't see how a low shelve EQ should do wonders in this situation ? You will end up EQ'ing a lot more, than the unwanted problem(s)

Best solution is a large studio + proper accoustic treatment. However, if you insist on using the knobs on the Adams it's really pretty simple: if there's too much bass in the room turn down the bass. If there's too much treble, turn down the treble. |

i agree with alex but maybe it could help you depending how you mix translate ... if you have to much high then boost them on the monitors a bit... things like that , but i like more to work with a reference track and let everyhting at zero on the eq |

Good topic - been meaning to ask about monitor EQ's for a while myself.
How many people here actually eq their monitors to suit their rooms ? Have you just sat there and tweaked the eq's while listening to a track that you know really well, or have you done it in a slightly more scientific way ?
Sounds to me like a bit of a crap solution for monitor manufacturers to be able to sell their monitors as an 'all in one home studio solution', 'plug and play' almost.

You could use sine wave test tones & a SPL meter, or a microphone patched back into the computer along with some software, like room EQ Wizard:
http://www.hometheatershack.com/roomeq/
Comparing the loudness of various tones frequencies, you can see if the listening spot is getting any sorts of peaks & nulls.

The testtones really reveal a lot about the condition of your studio's accoustics and monitoring: hear them and weep |

All too true. Maybe they should come with a disclaimer that you will very likely spend a lot of time & money obsessing over it, hehe.

if your track is too bassy then raise the gain of the low eq.. so you dont need to boost that much inside the track to hear it..
not exact sience but will help you i reken.. |

very little can compensate for non acoustically treated rooms. i have personally felt the difference after having my setup upgraded with GIK.
try this out ... it would cost almost the same as acoustic treatment (maybe much less depending on where you decide to purchase the treatment from) and it has been recommended by many!!

i'm not exactly sure about the a7 and the eq settings - but as a general thumb rule it would have to be - the closer the monitor is to the wall, the lesser the bass should be by eq.
if you decide to go for arc it would be best to leave the eq untouched (default or flat) and let the plugin do the work for you - easy peasy!!
good luck!!
b'om!!

Not a good use of your money buying EQ correcting software/hardware: http://www.realtraps.com/art_audyssey.htm
If you are going to spend any money, get acoustic treatment first, no question!
