i am very suprised that you are talking about contracts at all. most of the contracts that i have seen in the trance scene have been so unprofessionally written, that they are actually useless in terms of legal consequences.

imo the flight ticket is the only "contract" that has a value generally in the trance scene.

and btw i find the discussions about the noble goals kind of boring:). everyone has noble goals, but nevertheless he has to interract correctly with the ppl he has involved in his "business". and every event with costs, marketing, and entrance is a business, whatever you call it.

most artists that i know would do their live even for one person only. but it is not about that. the times for the noble goals are gone for most ppl. i am not a supporter of the idea that the listener should pay everything he hears but i think that everyone should get paid for the lost time at an event. and no one should work on his expenses for travelling. it makes no sense. it might me an honour for most ppl to be allowed to play but not for those who have no substitution in what they do. it is not abou the money at all. it is about the way of communicating with the organizer.

hehehe and funny post aeon. ))) nice one:). straight and clear. btw i am even making a favour of someone if i dont go to his event , cause i know he has no income to pay my expenses for travelling so i better not go. i am so happy that i have other sources of income.

flight doesnt mean much... i just got fucked for a party this weekend- i failed to get a deposit from them to confirm the date, but i got the flight... last night as i was packing for the airport i get an sms that the party is cancelled, the land owner in jail, too bad, oh well better luck next time...
and im like "oh no you dont. " but not much i can do... palm-to-forehead DOH!
how the fuck am i going to pay my rent (its just a room even) this month? no other gigs for sept...
everyone booking some other acts i guess... what shall the ocelot do? curl up in a corner and hibernate?

i digress... anyway- OOOD has it spot-on

nothing to discuss if you don't know the contract in question.

you all must have heard the whole "to assume makes an ASS out of U and ME... get it? ass-u-me?

Solution People!!!! ... book the acts that really deserve and need the exposure! and start with Aeon...he's one of the few that appeals to multiple mindsets.

hey
i also appeal to multiple mindsets...
sometimes inside of the same person!

hmmm- time for a self horn toot!
ive been making music forever, i sometimes get killer bookings on big parties and totally melt/meld minds on massive dancefloors and then theres other times im picking my nose in a corner trying to figure out how to eat for the month and i see 20 parties with other people booked and i want to log in here and shout "i make the best music i the world and you fuckers are all booking jack boring and lix-my-ass and raving about it@!"

but then my common sense kicks in and says "whoa there buddy! don't be so hasty! might come off like an arrogant asshole"
so of course i never would say anything like that on a forum or anything...

what up i have no booking for september and last i heard from someone i did a good job on the festivals this summer (and the last, and teh last and the last...)
i clearly was not made to do sports or perform crucial brain surgery that requires calm nerves and a mild pleasant demeanor
i was built to make music. since day one.
you need a plumber? call a plumber.
you want music? call me.
im well rounded, i make very psychedelic trance ranging from crazy night time stuff to totally soft puffy daytime lallala
i make chillout- new album "one" out NOW on Avatar records-
i make minimal techno
http://www.myspace.com/legjobbneuron
i make DnB
http://www.myspace.com/neurotransmitterz
i also cook well...

i am not very good in math. my social skills are non-existent. i never held a job very long nor a steady girl.

but i dont need a hotel or a helicopter or anything- just your bed with your girlfriend and a million euros will do!
seriously i prefer floors than bad couches...
just give me a blanket at least please...
better save the money and give it to me than to some hotel.
i dont know. jsut book me. or tell your friends to...

sorry- this whole cancelled booking thing really got to me...
there was also SOJ this summer- no one got paid... sorry to blah blah publicly- but hey what do i have to lose at this point with them anyway? another free booking?
then i had some moscow disasters that just sort of imploded... so this year has been a doozy... remember i was saying "i quit" this past february...

Psy scene in each city should buy a big warehouse to use as a home for all of that city's producers as long as they are actively producing, and then use it as a venue for parties.

Then, when you want to book talent from far away, you have one of your city's artists and one of the other city's artists switch homes for a week!

Or we could start a psychedelic trance commune in some remote land near waterfalls and amazing natural beauty. We could make money through psy ecotourism, you know all the freaks that come to visit and party and need a place to stay. We could also have artists teach and charge for it. We could sell art, and just get creative in a psychedelic way.

And we would have a kick ass music studio which would be a kind cooperative from artists and engineers around the world trying to help those who want to create the best music for the best reasons.

Things would be different in this community and it wouldn't have to be luxurious but instead healthy and in harmony with nature.

Because the truth is we do not need most of the material things we want. The pathetic part is that a great part of it is just to fit in and feel good in regards to how others view us. So we are stuck in some silly competitive game that is counter productive because its not real, its a pose for others. Its like we have created all these needs just to fit in and not feel like losers because we are scared shit of what others will think of us.

So in this new commune artists like Ocelot could crash and have a place to stay and continue making music while helping others and making money out of it.

Its just a dream.

It would be like the new Goa.. Fuck yeah

@rich- you pay my rent, and i stop bitching- deal!
----
about the artists commune

well there are a few material things- computer, monitors, and most people like hardware- i didnt allow myself that luxury but if it were a permanent studio i would build an analog modular synth myself and 3 way soffit mounted monitoring system...

and i object to the fact that shitty musicians get plenty of money and bookings (because the party people only want a good time and dont want to know that the wanker on stage is only there because he makes another festival or has a good hookup for xyz) and THEY all get their UAD cards and use it only to compress their copied basslines...
i want an UAD card too. i could do a lot with things that other people only use the presets from...

im not alone either- i would venture to say that this forum contains more than a few good, if under-rated musicians.

and forums also have party people who think that since they discovered psy 3 months ago we all need to hear their favorite track made by a 3 year old.

so... it would be nice to get the two together...
unfortunately there is a thing called nepotism-
that is the negative side of what is commonly called loyalty.
if a friend was a good friend and helped me, i will help them even if i don't like their art... (its a natural human trait)
scratch my back, i scratch yours.

entire countries are run in this fashion. do you ever wonder whats up when you meet a 21 year old VP of finance who also owns a casino and a newspaper? and then you find out the girl who he went to dinner with last night got offered the job to run the newspaper and his bro from college runs the casino... its WHO you know, most definately not WHAT you know...

in any case-

we were on the subject of creating a global art support network. i question the output of art as sufficient to pay for such a network, i contend we will need to either
1) grow maryjane
2) internet porn
for cash... and as you know, producers are often poorly groomed and their hygiene suffers as a result of long hours sitting in a chair in front of a computer in a little room...
so # 2 is out... that leaves #1

as jello biafra once famously said "the answer is obvious, grow more pot!"

but seriously- yes. we need an international warehouse cooperative/squat network
and for more than just artists... for all the freaks who travel with less than ideal financial conditions...

and, more importantly, for community
