I believe vinyl is still the right choice when you make proper stuff or have fans/potential buyers who love it anywayz.
This should work in each underground scene.
CD is a joke for free and we all know it,with vinyl its different ,its not that eazy to even get some releases that are only on vinyl on tha net.Vinyl is a real release (to me),maybe because not anyone can do it but it seems like everybody can do a cd promo cd however ^^ Also the cd cover is interesting for a moment,a vinyl cover can stand on your big box for months.And some covers like some from fsol stand on some in my space for a chapter in my life as an example.
Save vinyl and Fuck CD's! Get the musicians payed and book djs that have baught their material and can deal with the wheel of steel.
Do not forget that in times of vinyl not anybody could make it.I cee that the cd is the biggest dollars amount but you have to think about a bit more deeper.
Also keep in mind that this figures are from 1999 ,in 2009 with the internet development there should be different figures for sure.

i wouldnt say so 
cd is still nice, has better quality than the digital formats, has bigger headroom in opposed to the vinyl which only that makes it the best media to write electronic music
vinyl as you said is surviving because of smaller music scenes than the industrial pop music, ppl who are dedicated to what they listen to like punks or metals or oldies fans or collectors etc
but indeed is the most beautiful media for music for me too, it has life on its own

yes i know this is a big point.The quality..
But i would release after lets say 3 month a cd edition.(in my other music it would be idiocy to release a cd at the beginning i think)
Warm analoge quality on a good ohm system is also nice though.
but yeah .. we need cd of course still.So maybe not completely fuck cd's.. rather fuck cds at the beginning hehe .However for smaller scenec it should work.Psytrance scene is still an undergound scene,its problem is the free releases,free anything, free sharing and underpaying of hard working artist as a result and billions of names and releases where its gettin harder to find the good ones .
Well thats only my thaought about it.

We need a hi-fi streaming system that's digital and always connected to the internet scanning the size of the audience that the DJ is playing for, receiving info from sensors in the ground measuring how hard they dance and deducting a percentage based on the DJ fees and reputation and worldwide ranking. Tiesto, you will go broke, sorry.
For listeners we need to tap into the brain and monitor dopamine production, figure out how much the listener is enjoying the track and then deduct a percentage from their online bank account.
For dancers you get a discount on entry ticket based on speed, agility, sexiness & power of moves and length of time on the floor and vibes to fellow dancers. Penalties enforced for using the word "killargh"
Animals, kids and senior citizens get 50% discount.
0.00000001% of all sales from all music from all countries on all planets goes to Bigwigs for starting the topic that will change this universe.
