Darkpsy aka Highpulse PT

Both became pretty cheesy...

Older dudes should be very familiared with both of them...

Maybe they just got bored?

I don't think it's right to judge them or try to make it look like a completely bad thing (whether or not you like their new music is personal). Some people lose inspiration in one area and gain it in another, there's nothing that should lock an artist to one particular style. Some do dark and make a full-on side project very well (Furious- Delirious Noon).           http://soundcloud.com/ascensionsound

Well, when I think about acts like Infected Mushroom, who went from being one of the most important acts in the psy genre to one of the most laughed at, I can't really blame them either. Acts like that and a few of those mentioned above did a lot for our scene, and even though their styles may be changing, they are also opening up even more people to a kind of music they might otherwise not have considered were it not for a "gateway" like them they could relate more to.

Dissatisfaction is a big cause, for sure... IM told me personally that the direction they are going into is a direction they wanted to go into for years, and if they are doing it, kudos to them. There is no reason why anyone should feel obligated to stick to one street only. I imagine if IM continued making the same music they used to when they had no personal inspiration to do so, they would be making music that sounds even worse than what they are making now.

And if they (the artists) are successful at it, well, good for them. There's no reason to hate anyone for making a good living at what they are doing.

How many producers wouldn't mind having a sponsor they could call up every time they wanted a new synth, or laptop, or whatever?

On the other hand, it's sad to see some of these acts endorsing shampoo or cola commercials... but I think it's safe to say that artists like that have left the psy scene as most of us enjoy it anyway.

P.S. I think the issue of people not agreeing with the direction an artist's music is taking has a greater root in the problem of the listener's personal expectations than the artists themselves, and confusing music which one does not like with music that is "good" or not, because whatever one's tastes are, there are thousands who share an opposite taste, and nobody's opinion is really worth more than anyone else's, in the end.

^ Exactly. I said sort of the same thing in another thread a while ago. I've only begun producing and I can totally relate to people changing styles. You get bored with one and find another you are interested in because you love making music and inspiration can't be forced.

+a million to what Axis said about "what if they kept making the music they had been, they would probably be making crap now". Again, sometimes you run out of ideas and inspiration and you can either give up, or find something else that inspires you (or, for god knows what reason, you could force yourself to make music you don't like).           http://soundcloud.com/ascensionsound

Totally agree. It's sort of sad and embarrassing, but I haven't been involved in this scene too long and I don't think I would be here if it wasn't for Skazi and IM's new stuff. I still stopped listening to all of that very early on, but even bad psytrance is really good psytrance when you've never heard anything like it before.

Anyway, for me it usually isn't that difficult to tell the difference between experimentation and catering. To me, experimentation is great and respectable for any artist in any genre, but I can't even look at someone as an artist when they aren't making the music that they want to make.           You believe in the users?
Yeah, sure. If I don't have a user, then who wrote me?
