Hi Guys,

I have a pair of CDJ's & a Mixer at home (it's a hobby i'm not not pro) the mixer is connected to my 7.1 home theatre system but dosen't sound that great. so i decided to get a stereo amp + a pair of good speakers. I was advised by a pro-dj to instead go for a pair of active speakers?

What do u guys think is better ?

& if active speakers are better which ones are good (brand / make) ?

my budget is around us$ 500 - 600.

P.S.- Chk this link

active monitors aren't 'better', u just have an amp in the monitor then, so ur sure that the amp fits the speaker... Also, they are easier to set up. the big advantage is that u know what u have when u buy them. If u buy great passive monitors, but have an amplifier that colors your sound, the monitors will be useless... And vice versa ofcourse...

FREGLE, actually, you may just be a little bit wrong

Active monitors may often sound better than the same model just passive w/ external amplifier, because the one in the active version is often specially designed for the monitor AND, in some cases, as for my monitors (Alesis M1 Active Mk2.), bi-amplified. This means that there actually are two separate amplifiers, one for the woofer and one for the tweeter. So, active monitors may just be a bit better compared to the passive version. But be aware, quality is not the same everywhere... so listen to alot of different monitors befor you buy them. Important!

hey!

here you have a never-ending post about monitors: http://forum.isratrance.com/viewtopic.php?topic=12118&forum=2 That one helped me out a lot when I was about to buy a pair of monitors. FInally I chose genelec 1031a.. A nice pair of thingeys. But they don't fit in your budget.

I proabably would choose Alesis M1 active monitors if I was on your budget.

Good luck with everything
