Learning new things every day...
I thought MIDI files were MIDI files. Maybe I was wrong. Can somebody, please, post some supersaw MIDI files too? |

i guess he means just bassline midis then to play with a tb303 emulation (phoscyon e.g.).
no joke, i searched some time ago for the same thing cauz i never reached Emanuel Top bassline (quality). now i know it's necessary to use the internal tb303-clone-seqeuncer(!) with accents, glides and so on. thats the trick.
but after 2 years of producing i'm still stuck with creating really good(!) 303 acid/basslines

But isn't it more about details of the sound itself (ADSR, EQ, compression) than the notes??
It’s like that thread from yesterday about the super-duper sequence from Astral Projection: I listened and listened to the track and could not find anything super-duper about the notes themselves. It’s all the timbral tweaking and accents and how it fits with other components of the track that makes it awesome, not the notes themselves. Try to pick those notes and play them with a default patch (sine wave, let’s say ) or just a plain piano – the “super-duper” pattern will sound more boring than this post.

what you need is practice, and the ability to write them yourself.
You are asking for the easy route, and it will net you unoriginal results if any. Find some tutorials or slog through it yourself - infinitely more frustrating, but (even more?) infinitely rewarding.

You could grab a 303 softsynth like phoscyon, audio realism bassline or alien303. At the least I'm sure there's presets out there, or better as suggested would be to learn how to make them yourself.

+1 for phoscyon, shit is awesome for 303 sounds. However I wish it had more envelope customization (where is the fuckin ADSR?! - I can't have missed it....right?)

to make acid riffs nothing sounds as good as a real 303, i don't care what anyone says, nothing does......
xoxbox's are 90% but still can't quite get the resonance as nice.
vst's are 60%-70% the way there for me.
i'm not saying that vst's can't sound convincing though.
the best 303 vsti i have come across was the very 1st version of audiorealism bassline 1.
about midi's, does your 303 vst not have a randomize pattern feature? thats what i use.
also i think its worth noting that when patterning on a midi piano roll rather than the internal sequencer, 303 notes are never 1 full 16th long, always 1/32 gap off the end of each note!!!!!
@willsanquil - the real 303 didn't have adsr, only decay.
phoscyon is an emulation of the 303 devilfish mod which added an accent decay pot and few other features aswell.

are you serious? xoxbox's synth circuitry is literally made out of the exact same components as the original TB-303 (which is why it's now discontinued as so many of those components are really hard to find)
only difference is the interface and logic to control the synth
Have you done ABX tests? |

they don't sound the same. xoxbxoes are good but i'm goin for the 303. (gettin 1 next week hopefully)
the resonance is the biggest difference although its only subtle, its the achilles heel.
you can hear it more with no distortion.
xoxbox's tend to sound more sharp, less rounded, more edgy, and they tend to clcik and pop now and then.
fair enough its uses original parts, but it can never be the original because its not the original.
its something to do with the way the voltage starts struggling with the resonance at high levels on the 303 that gives it that warble that nothing else can nail.
