Ok i decided to make this post , regarding firewire soundcards. Do you think you are achieving transfer rates of 400 mbits per second or 800?
The fact of the matter is that if you are running Windows Xp with Sp2 then you are being deprived of this as Microsoft itself states that it brought it down to 100mbits per second , no matter whatever firewire soundcard you used.... Well many of us dont notice considerable difference in this , some of us may .. one way to test this would be to connect an external firewire HDD and monitor the transfer rates while moving some files etc...
The Good thing is that RME have discussed this issue and have made tech notes on how you can overcome this issue. For more info check this link out..
http://www.rme-audio.com/english/techinfo/fw800sp2.htm
Also there is an optional hotfix for SP2 users here..
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/885222/en-us
Its optional meaning that it will not be automatically downloaded unless you do it specifically... Check out both the links and you should be able to solve issues with Firewire on PC..
Hope this helps!!!
Cheers

Interesting... I'll look into this because I use a firewire hard drive and also a firewire audio interface...
Thanks for the info
