It ended up being an exercise in granular wankery. I've been fascinated by Alchemy lately, so when I got the remix pack, I had a few sessions where I would load a sample and try to create interesting sequences by modulating sample Position, tuning, etc. Any time I stumbled onto something I thought sounded cool, I would just render it and keep going. After I had about 30 of those, I chopped them up and sequenced different sections. That ended up taking me about 80 percent there. So then I figured it could be fun not to synthesize anything of my own and just finish the tune purely by mangling the provided samples (except for single drum hits, of course), so that's what I did.
It's interesting how my workflow seems to be changing lately, as I'm gravitating more toward bouncing/re-sampling things and working more with audio, rather than midi.
Here's the remix:
And here's the original, for those not familiar with this track:

thanks for checking it out, guys.
comet shell, simply pasting the url should take care of embedding the soundcloud widget. the only catch with this is if the url is for secure http (that is, 'https'), then you need to delete the 's' (so it's just 'http') and it should embed properly.
