I *love* my Virus A. Yeah its old and it lacks the Hypersaw and some of the new features, but I have a JP-8000 for Supersaw and software for integration.
After a good amount of experimentation, I've discovered that the Virus filters are some of the best filters that money can buy.
Speaking of buying, pick one up used. You can get a virus b or c for a LOT less than a new Snow. Even a used snow will cost you around $800+, but a Virus b will run you closed to $400. You can't hardly even find Virus As anymore.
Nord synths are cool, some people can make them sound awesome, and their pitch/mod joysticks are the most intuitive and awesome of anything I've used. But you wouldn't get that on a Nord rack. For some reason the Nord sound never clicked with me though when I'd try them out.
You *need* to try each of the boxes that you're considering. See which feels right to you. Init a patch and make your own to get a feel for the programing. Play some sequences and tweak those filters (very important for acid, goa, and psy sounds!) and see if they sound good to you. Also check out demo songs and youtube videos of them to get an idea of what other people have accomplished with that same gear. |

Can you elaborate on the new features please?

"The basic Virus analogue modeled oscillators between the Virus A and TI are identical with the only difference being the number of voices available as well as the additional Hypersaw oscillator and digital wavetable oscillators of the Virus TI.
...
the features of which have been extended in the Ti range to include grain table, comb and formant filter settings." - From Wikipedia
Also the TI is the "total integration" which just incorporates a VST for programming the synth. The TI2 also re-arranges the layout of the front panel and redesigns the case. |

.... keep in mind that the Virus is digital synth , basically a fancy VST in box with its own CPU !!!
the Nord x2 is a little old now, but still a great sounding synth and it is Analog ....

The Nord is not analogue, it's a dsp based synth as the Virus. Like you wrote it's as well a vst in box only without the integration feature.
Regarding which one you should buy... I'd take a Nord Modular if it had to be a Nord or Virus. |
