Hi guys,
I've got an opportunity to buy a Virus C for around 870 euros..I wanted to know whether this is a good deal?
I'd also like to know how the Virus C compares against the Nord Rack or other synths in that price range..
Should i be patient and save up more for a Virus TI instead or should i get this?
Thanks for any input!

hello,
i`ve seen cheaper ones, but i think this is not a bad deal if the unit is in mint condition. i have now a TI and i am absolutely satisfied with it - it does what virus c does + much more (wavetable, more fx, 16 channels, integration ... you`ve read it all, i know ) if you feel you don`t need this new stuff or already own some microwave xt ... , then go for c model and buy something else for bigger variation.
i think you cannot compare different synths like virus c and nord because their architecture is very different (now that was a sentence . i have also nord 2 and for me they are an excellent combination - if i have to choose only one i would go for virus. i bet there are many people that would go for nord, so try each one, before buy personaly i like virus for its versatility and nord for its ability to cut through the mix. (i`m not talking about nord 3 - it has softer sound imho) |

it s a good deal if it s the one with the keyboard, if it s the desktop it s ok but you can find some cheaper,a good price is between 700/800 euro.i like it more than the nord ,to me it s like gibson and fender for rock ,if you want that tone you need one but you ll sound like everyone. |

I have a virus c rack which i bought new at £1100 but that was a long time ago, I beleive we can get one easily for £600 (881.485 EUR) but i don't think you can resonably find it much cheaper. It was still retailing 2 years ago for the price above i think.
Anyway if you go for a virus you must know why you're bying it. I personnaly think that the strengh of the virus is in the onboard effect and modulation. I don't use much the oscillators anymore but i feed signal from my computer to the virus, I love its filter their simply amazing.
I also have a nord rack 2, its a beautiful instrument i got it on ebay a year ago for £300, the only thing that is anoying is this pcmcia card it uses to save presets but once you get one you're ok. The nord is nice i use it a lot for all kind of weird modulated sound. its just a very straight forward synth it does just what you want, it has a great filter section and a very easy to use modulation, a 4 year old could get around it
I don't know much the virus ti but friends do have it and like it. but again it depends what you want to do with it.
Me i'm better off with my vsts like the z3ta and albino , and occasionally feed stuff (loops too)in the virus .

I'd save for a TI, if I were you & could get the money in half a year. It has so much more goodies, esp. now with OS 2.

Virus TI is nice.
Concerning Virus C:
I had a Virus B and I bought it by the time Virus C came out even though I new about C.
I don't like the C. It has a bit more performance, ok, but it's a lot in the internal EFx, which I never use, since I do all in cubase with much better quality. And some very handy knobs for LFOs went away for EFx knobs. The little synthesizer improvments... I never missed them.
So if you want to go the cheap way, better go for the Virus B, it sounds the same.
But Virus TI is of course ultra nice, because of it's integration in you DAW, total recall etc.
Works perfect here. OS2.0 (2) is nice too.
Nord sounds completely different. Virus is more harsh and "bad", nord is more round and "nice", whereas Novation is somehow "liquid" and waldorf a bit of all. Roland sounds "brilliant" and Korg has it's completely own strange style "nicely harsh to wicked round" or so.
Thats just how I see it, I owned or borrowed synthesizers from all manufacturers above, and for me selling or keeping them was just a matter of taste. They all sounded great.
I actualy even recommend Virus A for thos who want hardware but have no money. it sounds better than many plugins and you can get them for almost nothing and you get knobs.
