hello guys ,

i have an acapella of a song that is @ 120 BPM ... but i want to make a remix with it @ 140 BPM .... but i cant figure out how to speed op the vocals , without sounding really strange ... any idea how this can be done and which are the best tools to do it ??           http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CTPJuMSwzUQ

It's a hell of a time stretch... You can try to stretch with Cubase SX but most of the chances are that you will lose the original pitch. Good luck. I hear Ableton does it well, but i didn't try personally.           Everyone in the world is doing something without me

In sx, right click on the wav, timestretch, MPEX algorithm, source tempo: 120 dest tempo: 140.

Sounds fine, no algorithm is gonna sound perfect.
I punched a 100bpm tune up to 150 and it sounded fine. Timing might get off a tiny bit, but you can cut the phrases up and move stuff around with Ctrl-Alt-Arrow.

Assuming you are using SX....

forget all that ...all you will get is bad sound.
there is a program called "beatburner" that can modify the bpm of anything to anything without ruining the quality too much.
thats what i use and it never failed me.

Ableton is excellent for this. The more time you spend setting up warp markers and adjusting the warp settings the better the results will be.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

calculate it - use Cubase BPM calculator, tap your space bar - find the original BPM

Your method might work, but you are completely incorrect about Cubase SX. Just to make sure this thread remains factual.

Why the fuck didn't I think of that?! Melodyne is absolutely the right tool for this - it has the highest-quality timestretch I've heard, and you can quantise and transpose the vocals at the same time too. It might take a little while to learn to use as the interface is slightly non-standard but the results will be worth it for sure.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

if you already DO know the bpms, try soundforge's pitch algorithm (you can lock the key and duration). I took vocals that were 180 bpm (drum n bass) and made them 133 bpm (for progressive) and it sounds perfect. Ive also tried timestretching vocals in Cubase and within 20 bpm it sounded just fine.
