Excellent!

This clip could replace the whole Spirituality forum and a good chunk of posts elsewhere on IsraTrance. Best sermon I've ever heard.

Thanks.

P.S. If they counted this topic in your profile - would you give up the other 190?

I actually really like this vid. How he touched on assigning the meanings of good or bad to things one encounters in life.

Well, I don`t want to be too negative, since there is no sense for it, but, what can you really lean from these gurus, also Osho and Co.,. they don`t say anthing, which a normal person can`t figure him or herself. I say, better go your own way. Or use a technic. But litening to talks is a waste of time for me, better do your own thinking.

True, one can figure it out. And you are right, quiet contemplation on your own is probably more rewarding than watching a YouTube video of a guru. The thing is, though, most people would watch a video anyway. Just a different video. Without a guru they would watch the latest “breaking news” about Lindsey Lohan’s driving record, for example. Without listening to this guy, they would probably listen to Bill O’Reily or Keith Olberman (pick your poison). We don’t live in a vacuum. Even when we are isolated from the outside noise by our iPods, we are still affected by what is playing. A guru is a good alternative to garbage, that’s all.

And actually none of the Major Prophets said anything a 10-year-old could not figure out. That’s the beauty of it. Truth is pretty simple. We pollute our brains by “complicated” stuff like a starlet’s drinking problems or presidential elections to save ourselves from boredom. Meanwhile, the simple grains of truth are forgotten. Gurus are there just to remind us.

P.S. I am talking about this particular guy. There are plenty of “gurus” I’ve heard that I would not listen to again.

Ya, it can be entertainment, but I am just waiting for something real to get offerd by such gurus (never happend ti now, only surface talk). Maybe Goenka is a big exeption, but that`s Buddhism / Vipassana, which is THE key, ha

everything is entertainment...you have to kill time once you are born..unless you are fortunate enough to be able to sleep for long hours of the day...like the serpant           When death comes to your doorstep, make sure you are alive

I think , etertainment through media is a lot of times an escape from really working with your own self.

That's exactly what I was trying to say in the previous post. Our attention is not limitless. And it's already stretched to the max by all kinds of garbage, which does not improve our lives or lives of those we love in any way. TV commercials, meetings at work (admit it, 80% of them are total waste of time), political propaganda (including the charming and inspiring kind), empty movies and books, cheesy music. All this is not only a waste of time – it’s a distraction from thinking for yourself. Gurus are not supposed to provide answers (at least the real ones would not) – they are here to direct your attention where you can find those answers yourself.

Well, guru = teacher. Teachers should point out answers, if they know them. Everything else would be weird. Buddha also gave answers on how to reach enlightenment. Exact ways. Exact rules. But a guru talking about society surface things is just like an entainer. funny .. but if this satisfies people evrything is fine ..

+1
Hands down, a good guru talking sense is a way better alternative that lindsay lohan drunken monkey stories.
