what you simply can do in cubase for example is to insert the midi plugin *midi modifiers* then select phrygian as scale and the key of your track, now any note you might set out of the scale will be automaticaly shifted to the next *in scale* note.

Other way would be to look up in the net which notes are represented in these scales and just use them..not too complicated..

here's a handy website for you:

none of this will make much sense without some understanding of some music theory basics. I wouldn't try to integrate that sort of (presumably new?) knownledge into your productions right away, but would rather make simple experiments with the scales with simple patches, like a piano sound, then experiment with different arrangements within the scale just with that instrument to gain a feel for how it sounds and how the notes relate to each other.

when you feel you can navigate your way around this information things will become much clearer and it's actually easy to integrate this sort of knownledge into production.

like your bass is resting on G, so that's the root. you choose a key, you play a chord or two with the pads, you can make the same chord trigger some arp (as played mode, up, up and down, the usual deal...) and those two sounds will sound harmonious, provided there's some fundamental tone that one can recognize, heavily pitch modulated leads sound more like fx then a playable instrument for example...

another thing: you also need to be aware that at least one oscillator on your synthesizer should rest in an octave, otherwise even if you play or write the notes in a scale, it will actually play something else. also, be aware that many times we tend to like the sound of chords naturaly so if you place the second oscillator in a third or fifth, you're actually making a chord within your instrument and that can mean trouble as well... nothing to fancy though, as semitones are related to the very same music theory

plenty of videos about this all:

Read up on basic music theory. Mathematical wave theory might help also (it was highly important for me).

Try to understand the interval half step sequences. Kind of highly important in understanding the phrygian scale.
