What's the difference between balanced and unbalanced connections, for example mines rca is unbalanced and trs xlr are balanced ? m-audio 2496 supports any balanced connection ?

My monitors are active so when i amplify the monitors with my pc on and monitors on and i amplify the monitors volume a lot i can start earing a small noise like static or something is it normal with a medium class monitors and an m-audio 2496 ?

i think i understood better, balanced is for a connected mixer for example, you can add or remove decibels to a synth with and know properly how many decibels you are leaving go out, instead of an unbalanced connection you can't know well with how many decibels you are working with ?

is that ?

Unbalanced = two connections - one hot wire, one ground
Balanced = three connections - one hot, one cold, one ground

Balanced connections use the difference between the hot and cold wires, which are 180 degrees out of phase. If interference becomes present on an unbalanced connection, it is present on the hot wire and will be audible at the destination. If interference is present on a balanced connection, it is present on both the hot and cold wires, and the difference will cancel out at the destination.

TRS (two ring) - Either unbalanced stereo or balanced mono
TS (one ring) - Unbalanced mono
RCA/Phono - Unbalanced mono
XLR - Balanced mono (it's also possible but extremely rare to use an XLR cable for an unbalanced stereo connection)
Standard speaker cables - Unbalanced mono

Yes, but as we were just discussing in the mother of all thread, balanced cables are more appropriate for long runs (with stage snakes, PA systems, etc.) than studio use. In the studio, it can't hurt anything, but it isn't a necessity. Use balanced cables if possible, but don't go out of your way to use all balanced connections.           You believe in the users?

Generally yes, however there are other factors i.e. different electricity sources that can still prduce an unwanted and at times pretty nasty hum.

Nevertheless, use XLR where you can!           Upavas - Here And Now (Sangoma Rec.) new EP out Oct.29th, get it here:

They remove the unwanted signals as long as they enter through the cable.           Demand recognition for the Armenian genocide 1915
