Hi guys..I know that it has been asked before but I couldn't find the thread..just a little question on RMS value on the master bus
if I put the voxengo span(or FreeG from Sonalksis) on the masterbus(without any limiting, comp, etc..)I read -10db, -9 db RMS..is this too loud?it sounds ok to me
I can see that commercial music has rms of about -10db but it has been mastered so maybe I push too much the channels?
I use the pure3 option on voxengo span which gives me different values from FreeG..
how much in average to you read on your db meter?
cheers
LS.

With nothing on my master bus and using my RME FF mixer as a reference for levels in dbRMS i usualy sit with about -16 to -14. I am no pro but also this seems fine to me as that leaves quite a bit of overall mix headroom for the mastering engineer.

Usually when i'm done with my tracks & analyse them in soundforge they have an average RMS value between -16 to -17.           http://www.soundcloud.com/getafixmusic
