Reaper is professional, more than sonar, cubase..... maybe it's workflow isn't very user friendly... but user friendly is synonymous of..... noob, when you learn the workflow you can do more than what you can do with other daws, freedom.

in my -limited- experience:

-free routing (no differences between audio, midi and folder tracks)
-custom actions and/or macros
-customization of every single thing (appereance and functionality)
-a language to easily develop plug-ins (JS aka JesusSonic not JavaScript)
-try it without limitations
-run it from a usb key (less than 5 mega)
-suggest features to the developers and see it implemented

those are just the first things right off the top of my head...

indeed it's getting more & more sympathetic to me,I think I gonna give it a serious try someday. For now I have to become big friend of logic but reaper is defo something I have the whole time im my subconsiousness. The price is also a very big plus imo worth the legal support.Interesting points ohshit..           https://soundcloud.com/shivagarden

I once had a try but I found it not easy enough for music..too much time.. . Working on many genres parallel, a fast workflow is sth that is very important to me.But I'll check it up again.

In order to be efficient you have you have to set up it according to your workflow.

i.e. in my case i've create a couple of customized buttons:

-create new track and open the vst instrument dialog
-insert empty midi part
-render selected track to audio

hope it helps, have fun!           http://soundcloud.com/alphadelphi

auto-load of default project template on program start saves much time for me

btw, about things that Reaper has and others don't have:

i remember a couple of years ago i had a problem exporting project to wav from Cubase track-by-track. Cubase didn't have native support for that and i had to install additional buggy software... shortly, that was a big hassle. Don't know if Cubase can do it now.

Reaper can and could always And it's as fast as regular mixdown

Live is simply the best, well... for live. Of course is easiest than REAPER but, after few time of learning, i prefer REAPER for sequencing.           http://soundcloud.com/alphadelphi

cockos reaper is just "decent"
reaper is cheap, lightweight and has a lot of interesting features. I gave it a try when I was starting at producing.

Don't think you should carry it on to professional usage. imo

yeah nerd killer, maybe you should listen to more of those nerds, instead of killing them...

Reaper is a great product. for cheap..and cockos is constantly updating.
