Hi,
I have a (probably stupid) question.
How do you make that clicking sound that is used in minimal techno alot. Im talking about that clicking sound you can also simulate by clicking with your tongue like the guy in the video
I can easily make very interesting clicks and pops but I cant get same or at least similar sound, tried many different synthesizers and the nearest thing I can get is with doepfer a-100. But that is because of its super fast ADSRs and triple VC resonant filter Ive used . How can I get the sound with standard VSTs (I can use massive, fm8, absynth, reaktor, max/msp). Any ideas?
Thank you very much!

Cannot watch video but you can get close to clicks n pops with any synth, just use very short envelopes.

yes listen to aciduss, its infact very easy, and also you will want to add reverb to get a room for the click. Sometimes very little, and sometimes very much depending on what you are after.

Thanks guys, I know how to handle ADSR. What I meant is a very specific sound. I got pretty decent results with one osc, comb filter, bitchrusher and short reverb. I get some of that woody sound. Still not there but a bit nearer.

I meant more like this (it starts on 0:15)
It is really overused in minimal techno. I really like the sound, dont know why. There is probably one specific trick with that sound and I cant get it right.

If you're on Logic Ultrabeat is full of them sounds + has great envelopes for it, still nothing beats the A-140...besides 2 A-140s http://soundcloud.com/martianarts

Thank you for all the info!!
Great, Ill check samples and claves type of sounds. But I would really like to make it from a scratch so I can make whole family of such sounds with some variations

Yep, nothing beats a-140. In fact every synth should have optional a-140 with on/off switch, or better, 2 of them I have three a-140s plus a-142 in my system and its not nearly enough. Getting a-143-2 soon
Thanks for all the help, really appreciate it.

I dont use logic so Ultrabeat is a no go. But maybe if anyone has a preset to share. It can be Massive, Absynth, Fm8, Reaktor I would be really grateful.

Pitched up toms with some EQ does the job as well.
