I have been thinking lately a lot about what kind of bassline works well in clubs and in home.

I have always wandered why so many big psy names make so boring basslines, especially one note bassline. I always tought that repeating and simple bass gets you more into the trance state, but lately I have been thinking that if you don't have the perfect sound system in club, a bassline with a lot of different notes in different frequencies will not sound good. In a bad soundsystem or bad acoustic environment a bassline with one note is likely to sound better than bassline that goes up and down. Do you agree with this, maybe it is just my imagination...?

Which notes and frequencies do you consider that sound best in an average club environment. And even maybe, which waveforms..?

For me it seems that G and F notes are maybe the most used ones

Do you like better basslines where the fundamental is between 50-100hz or where it is between 20-50hz (and of course erased with highpassing, if the fundamental is very low).

Do you like kicks that end to some specific constant frequency (e.g. 50hz), or kicks where even after the transient part the frequency goes down linearly e.g. from 100 to 30. Some how I like sinus kicks that end to 52hz, some times even 48hz. This leads to question that I don't understand. Space Buddha, one of the best full-on producers ever (in my opinion), uses kick with fundamental almost in 70hz. When I hear the kick alone, somehow it lacks some kind of lower power, but still the tracks in totality are soo powerful and force you to dance.

I like tracks that modulate effectively... that is, the bass note changes by meaningful intervals to shift the mood of the track.

Most trance is meant to be played outdoors.. without walls around you there is less worry about resonant frequencies.

I think minimal techno is the perfect music for warehouses and clubs with bad acoustic... it is so dry that the echoeyness of a bad room actually makes it sound better.
