Ableton Live strange RAM behavior???

hey guys
So I've been running some tests and here is what I've found...

when I load my exported stems into ableton (8 stems each into its own separate track, so 8 tracks each with 1 8/9min stem of 16bit wav) , ableton loads them into memory...

It uses 2.00GB of memory as soon as everything is loaded.

If I quit the program and go back to it, it loads all the samples and uses 2.00GB stable.

If I save the clips with the save button in clip view, close the program and re-open, memory usage is 1.50GB but as soon as I press play, ableton starts gradually loading the samples into memory. If I pres stop it stops and if I let the samples play their full length it uses 2.00GB when all its played, if I re-play it maintains the 2.00GB usage.

So I gather that everything is being loaded into memory right?

Problem is, I didn't selected the RAM button on the clips, so it's behavior should be to just read from disk right?

You guys think it could have anything to do with bad configuration in the preferences menu?

Here's a couple of photos of my preferences:

This test was ran in 2 computers, 2 soundcards and with versions 8.3, 9.0.0 and 9.1.1.

Thanks in advance brothers

....I assume that you are actually having trouble *running* the set, you're not just looking at the RAM amount and worrying that its a problem?            If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe

Yes bro, memory keeps going up until it reaches maximum and the set starts glitching.

This happen on my desktop that has 8GB and live used it all and on my laptop winch has 4B the same thing happens.

each song in my live act consists of 32 clips, 8 playing at the same time all the time, 8 have about 8/9min winch contain most of the track and 8 for track intro (32 bar loops) and another 16 for intro mix and outro mix (16 bar loops).

If I only have 2 tracks its ok but my set has 8 tracks

ableton x64 for optimized ram usage.

you have asio4all driver... on both computers?
maybe not a good idea to run 32 bit samples on a soundcard like that.
if you bounce to audio or record, it will be always 32 bits. 16 or 24 bits are fine.

Yeah tried 64 bit version too and all the clips are 16bit.

maybe lowering the bit depth from 32 to 24bit. or 16.
lower bitrates eventually will require less resources.

increase asio buffer size. but more buffer size = more latency.
