I use it both in osx and windows...
To avoid crashes in windows, do a fresh install of the OS, and dont install any driver...
Just the ableton and audio drivers. no av softwares, no internet, nothing else than that...
Im running it for about 6 months without any crash...
And running it on osx too... good, but only until version 7.x |

other solution that works is -reinstalling ableton every now and then on windows
it sucks to see such a good program with so many glitches SPLINTER |

wow, I use ableton on mac, I have 1 problem. Rapture... ( cakewalk synth ) every now and then.. Very Rare!! will cause live to crash. Other than that. Fantastic.

i never saw ableton crash in my both computers... and all of then is running windows xp...
I think is about known better your OS... people love to say bad things about XP, like crash all the time and stuff... but try to see what they have installed on the system.... 
Tweak the system is the way!!! And PC based computers are cheaper!!!
