Not too sure if this is the right topic for this post but..
So Im trying to EQ the bass/bassline out of a track ( full-on psy), but the "gain low" eq does not seem to do anything.. ?
all the bass + kick + lead is in the mid.. and low only has
a little sub. Is it normally like this .. ? or is there any other ways to remove and add the bass ?
Thanks |

if it's the case where you don't actually have any frequencies in that zone (from 20Hz-80 or 100Hz) at all, then you're not solving the issue with EQ, but rather going back to the source.
if that's the case, you need to lower your root note by an octave or two. you need a fundamental tone somewhere around 35-70Hz (this isn't any rule, just common values).

I do not know about this particular EQ but a lot of EQs do not really cut even though you put it down to maximum (a cutoff filter is usually better for that than an EQ). Similarly, if you want to boost, just adding a certain freq on an EQ does not necessarily boost that freq if it is low or non existant in the source. |

Thanks for the replies I also have another problem
with another track.. In this track the Low and the mid EQ does not effect the track all the bass + lead + Drum + perc
all the elements are in High EQ.. ? Is there a way to separate those ? |

yes, there is. you're using a rather simple, hi-fi like EQ, that's good for broad changes but not precise enough for most mixing duties. you have EQ 8 in Ableton Live that's a full blown parametric EQ with sweepable bands (you can choose the frequencies affected), high pass (low cut), and low pass (high cut) filters, shelf filters and bell filters with selectable width (Q)... it's got a very steep filter mode for the high pass (I think it's 48dB slope, not sure though). then you can get some other, from a third party developer if you feel you'd like to try something else. |
