Ithink that cubase 5 is good for trance music production ,but it takes really lot of time when you working on some part or recording some stuff, but Ableton gives to you simple best pro setup for your creation on air and recording parts and loops. Also Ableton Live 8 has really good quallity of sound ithink !!! Ithough peoples working with ableton live on new midi controller akai apc 40 its - fantastic machine so simple creative ,making effects creating song parts on fly !!!With 10 seconds you can create from akai or also with keyboard from some clips something like 50 seconds of song part combination its amazing !!! |

Cubase rapes ableton's sound quality... Logic rapes cubase tho. |

what do you mean by 'sound quality' - If I open up the same VST in logic, cubase, and ableton it will sound different?
What aspects of Logic/Cubase are superior to counterparts in Ableton? only thing that ive seen in cubase from videos/tutorials that I wished that I had in Ableton was different waveforms as automation lines (ie it just draws in a sine wave instead of having to create one with dots)
just curious |

I mean render quality, the summing and output of several channels into a rendered file (i.e. wav).
Also native vsts are Ableton < Cubase < Logic
Best thing about cubase IMO is the way to edit stuf on the sequencer... ableton is not that friendly. Also offline effects.
Best thing about ableton are the fx chains you can come up with...
You can wire both of them you know. |

it doesn't matter which is best imo.
there has been killer productions made on both applications.
it just comes down to what you're most comfortable using.
although, i am digging integregating my external fx into the cubase 5 mixer!!!!! |

I've been working on Cubase, Reason standalone, Protools and Live, and I have to say I really like Live the best. The workflow, the layout.. how it's so easy to develop ideas in the clip-view, the possibilites for sound manipulation. It's all so easy. The people at Ableton are geniuses!! Live is the future! |

then what you ask?
work with ableton and viola
everyone and what he like thats the real answer.
if there was a REAL difference we would all know about it long ago , by listening to VA CD'S....
but no one can really listen to complete VA and tell what program each artist use , so the answer is BOLLOCKS (forgive my french)

I think that ableton is better. Why? Beacuse it can be used as standard DAW software and for live performances this two in one you have in 40% price of Cubase 5. Sound quality.... If you are not professional musican, just you do it because you like it (like me ), the minimal differences of sound shouldn't be so important. Better invest your money to a good audio interface, or hardware synth, or midi controller.
BTW: In my opinion best sound quality have Nuendo but this price.... |

I love live, but I can see where people also like cubase. Cubase has better render quality, but ableton is easier to get up and running. Cubase also has great features for audio editing. I like producing in live because I find tricks and get ideas that I can also use in my live sets.
