hi guys,
im trying to figure out my options to have lives tracks all hands on...i want to be able to arrange a track as i play the clips, drop basses, enter synths, etc...on the fly...
is there a dedicated hardware for that sort of stuff...like a mixer that auto assigns its self to all the tracks of live with faders, knobs, mute, solo buttons etc....
you guys catch my drift
thanks in advance for any advice from you guys

Controllers for Live is really tricky since everyone use the software in a different way and most people searching for the ultimate controller will not be lucky to find one that fills their needs.
Ableton was considering to create a custom Live controller but abandoned the idea for that very reason.

If you have a lot of money and time you could build you own or get a Lemur.
Also you could make a poor man's Lemur with a touch screen and construct a controller interface that suits your needs for example using SynthMaker but it won't have multitouch capabilities.

Otherwise the Behringer BCR-2000 is very flexible units. Many knobs and buttons with LED's that makes them nice to use in a Live environment and they are very cheap but still feels quite solid and reliable.

BCR-2000 is very highly rated. if you have a brain for wiring & some time on your hands then you could always build your own! midibox or the doepfer modules are both good starting points.

The point IMO is that you can create an interface exactly as you like it, so you should design your own scheme.
When you know what controls you like to fit in and add the sliders, switches etc. in a SynthMaker project and hook it all to the MIDI output.
I only played around a bit with SynthMaker and it didn't seem too difficult to create a layout and hook everything up.
I haven't gotten around to buying a decent touch screen yet though and don't have a completed interface.

If you like an example as inspiration check out http://www.monotouchlive.com/

This looks fun.. But I even dont have to create interface in synthmaker if I like miditouch, right?
I would like to add that touchscreen to expansion port of my bitstream 3X, it would be awesome.. It looks easy but Im sure it isnt.. Have to check prices of touch screens..
Looks like a worst part of the job to find some small touch screen          http://www.myspace.com/djacidkills

If monotouch has the controls you need then it's just to configure the machine as instructed on the download page.

When looking for a touch screen keep in mind that the cheapest models use a technology that doesn't seem to work so good for dragging.
The author of monotouch recommends "Surface Acoustic Wave" technology.           (``·.¸(``·.¸(``·.¸¸.·`´)¸.·`´)¸.·`´)

One of my colleagues uses Live + Behringer BCR-2000 for his liveacts and is very satisfied. This might be worth checking out. I think there are some viedos on youtube of guys controlling Live via BCR-2000.           www.myspace.com/mentris
