I have been in touch with ableton about becoming a certified trainer. However, they want $1400 USD from me if I'm chosen at the start of the certification training event coming up. I was wondering if theres anybody on here who knows what types of work I'd get as a certified trainer. Am I on my own? Or, is ableton going to set me up with conventions, seminars, classes etc ?           http://www.youtube.com/user/trawhi (tutorials)

you'll be abble to give private classes, add a banner in your website for example, like Tom Cosm.
create your own certified content and sell if you want to...
appart from that I'm not sure if ableton will set you up anything...

Here is a hypothetical scenario: 2 tutoring sessions a week (not necessarily with the same person), 4 hours per session (reasonable, IMHO), $20 per hour (pretty standard tutoring rate in the US). You’ll get your $1,400 back in 2 months. This is at the current nearly-zero discount rates. Let’s say you know of a sure-fire investment opportunity that gives you 20% a year ROI (in the current economy it’s gotta be either a Ponzi scheme or a crack house ). Applying 20% discount rate… Cranking numbers… Nope, you’re still breaking even at 2 months, even compared to your magic “investment”. Not to mention, you won’t have to go to jail for tutoring.

But seriously, unless you live in Berlin – how realistic are your prospects of getting those 2 sessions per week?

All things considered, that's not a bad investment, especially considering you're officially sponsored by ableton and will probably be able to get their new stuff free or greatly discounted (so you can teach it). Plus, a lot of music schools would likely be willing to work with you just for the certification they can add to their credentials via you (at least, in a city environment). Hell, I live in a town of less than 90,000 and I could get 2 sessions a week NOW. And I'm not even certified (yet).

You forgot to mention that out of those 90,000 people 150,000 are producers and DJs.

Otherwise, it sounds great!

Did you feel that in this course you learnt things about the program that you would not have learnt if you studied on your own?
I mean structured graduated course vs. reading the manual, forums, YouTube plus trial and error.

lol, you know Asheville well for having never been here

Not sure if you're talking to me or not, but I haven't taken a course (formally). The certification program doesn't require you to take one either... any group meetings are mainly for assessing your ability to teach ableton to a class.

Yes, I was still talking to you.
I understand that you can study by yourself. But can you get some kind of study materials from them besides the manual? And do they at least provide you with a list of "learning outcomes" - topics and skills you're supposed to master?

You're right, I may have an oveactive imagination when it comes to Asheville.
Hopefully, some day I'll get to visit it and see how far off I was.

Actually, I was serious about your assessment.

I am just going by what I see in the North American forum.

So, what about the “study outcomes”?
Does Ableton provide you with some kind of list of things they expect you to know? And if yes, do they have books/videos that you can purchase from them? And if yes – is it a graduated study system or assorted tutorials?
