Attempted to search for similar information but the search feature will not reveal its precious gems to me.
My question is this:
I see *tons* of discussion about different VSTs, EQs, Compressors, Reverb, all sorts of varied plugins with varied uses and GUIs...I have downloaded a fair bit of them, strolled through the presets and mucked around in general to attempt to get a feel for them (stuff like z3ta, sylenth, albino, vanguard)
I also have been putting a lot of time into the Ableton 8 instruments/effects and I know my way around Operator/Analog/filter delay/eq8/reverb/blah blah enough to at least recognize what the anagram for the control means and how to automate it...
I see a lot of people saying (in regards to synthesis) that the particular tool that you use isn't as important as how well you understand it, or something to that effect. But then again if there wasn't something unique and different about at least *some* of the synths out there then they wouldn't exist in the first place, and people wouldn't discuss the differences.
I guess that was a long winded way to explain myself before I ask the actual question, but...
1) Are there large difference between the Ableton effects (reverb, delays, eq) and the expensive third party effects? The ableton ones seem high powered to me with lots of advanced options, but then again my knowledge is very limited at this point
2) Assuming there *are* large differences, what aspects of whatever VST you use do you find to be unique enough to merit you spending the extra time to learn the ins and outs of it?
for instance - the modulation matrix in albino - is that hard to replicate using ableton native tools? |

i you have both you can check them yourself, and if you downloaded the 3rd party stuff they are not that expensive.

well of course I've been checking them myself, but I am a self-admitted novice and am curious to hear what people with more experience have to say - but it looks like this topic is dying before its started so I guess I'll go back to the broken search feature ^_^ |

I think he means "if you downloaded it for free - you should think about paying for it"
I would certainly do so...but I have other things to worry about first and I have no moral problem with trying before buying, even if that trial period is quite long |

soory no intention to tell you that dowloading cracks is bad or anything like that. not that much of a hypocrit. i was using the expression of willsanquil of 3rd party stuff (other then that is in ableton).
more to the point: trust your ears when you have the possibility to use both the vst´s and ableton itself. compare them. ok, peace guys.
