imo something havent been said , maybe you wont agree with me on this... but commercial cheesy psytrance is way easier to produce ,it s the style and the production technics used for that style that lead to that big commercial sound .
have you already heard some cheesy commercial full on or prog reallly badly produced?
everyhting is there to get the sound big and commercial wihtout much effort, it s in the nature of the music, from the bassline notes used, to the arrangement, the fx... every ingredients are there to get a big comercial sound .

Very nice topic, something i've already thought.
I'd like to make some comments
- Maybe this was the real gift from YHVH to the jews you know? Killer Psytrance production skills!
No, really...
- Many made the point that they have a big scene in a small country so it is easy for they to meet and share technique, vsts and samples.
- It's a real industry there, this guys like Boa Group own many of the most commercial fullon labels surely there are just a few guys mastering all their work so it sounds similar.
- I do agree that Israel ppl have something special in their production maybe not that superior like you stated in your first post but they do have this certain crisp in sound and not only quality but the overall drive in israeli psy and fullon you know classic fullon build ups and psy trickery it is very recognizable and perhaps it is what most people who don't like full on hate.
- Personally I like it a lot but think it was much better some years ago... I mean guys like Astrix and of course IM did great stuff that changed the psytrance concept, nowadays they seem so stuck, most of the old acts are now cheesy techno that is nothing but the same over and over.
- Many of the great names from Israel are very undesirable people... i can say from personal experience after being at backstage several times when peeps like this when they come to my country I was totally disappointed to see what kind of persons they really are, stuck up diva like psypop arrogant scumbags... maybe this is not because they are from Israel but because they travel around the globe hitting play and dancing on stage (many of the cheese psytrance acts there are just play acts) and getting payed.
- One thing that gets my attention around this forum is that this guys are not here or at least they don't post. I've seen posts from guys like Vibe Tribe from years ago but nowadays this forum is populated with no so much genuine isratrancers.
you are right, the old things where better, people are going for very catchy melodies, and probably in their sold out personality are thinking of being like tiesto and shit like that, but there are very good tunes out there...i heard some of white noise tracks, and they blew my mind, basicly because of those tracks i heard i posted this topic, and i started making psy again (left it like 10 years ago) lets see how it goes |

i think a lot of the comparatively obscure really crazy psy stuff is very well produced too , its just not as well known , i don't know whats so special about the israeli producers , they pioneered a style that made it big .. of course they r good at it , and it completely ok if that's someones favorite style of psytrance , ... & +1 on england being the most significant country for electronic music .. and Beatles onward all modern music in general i suppose .

I think this is not a "Very serious question", actually I think there is NO QUESTION AT ALL!
There is great music from all arround the world, and great production aswell..
We should stop judging that much and just listen and enjoy music, that´s what it´s for.

It's no mystery why producers get "stuck"... inspiration comes rarely, but once you are a big name people will throw money at you even if you make uninspired music. |

Oh really? What about Bach, Beethoven and Mozart?
Wagner, Weber, Schubert, Mendelssohn, Brahms, Schumann, Strauss... I can forgive anything from Germany after those guys.

mozart, schubert and strauß were not german but austrian composers. and even some of the others spent a good part of their career as a musician in austria. but since then nothing good has ever come from austria, while germany had (or has) kraftwerk, einstürzende neubauten, but also really innovative psytrance artists like x-dream, the delta, spirallianz, MOS, who pioneered the sound of the early 00's. |

+ 1 and -1
+ 1 you're right, seems to me that a lot of dudes that produce electronic music are overthinking and overrating they're personas, i mean, be humble, do, make, produce, whatever.. good tracks, and keep on rollin and please don't stop to get sell your personality, once you've done it.. you know the rest..
-1 people are going for catchy melodies because things changes, i understand and RESPECT the old psytrance dudes who made and probably still make a lot of great tunes, and i also respect who likes and hears them at concerts, albums, etc.. but, not every newcomer who arrives at the psy scene is bad, i mean, i bet there are folks who are new at this and have some twisted freashy minds, all i'm tryin to say is: it depends on the guy/girl and his/her music, not all the new is bad, but, fact is, the old school still goes

i didn't realise he was widely known outside austria, but he's indeed quite good. as i'm from the same area i've heard him play a lot in the last few years, so his music is just one facet of "psytrance as usual" for me |
