The german are good at sound products . cubase, virus ti, senihizer and many more that don't comes to my head now.
about what you said on israely music. i think you talking about psytrance. maybe electronic music in general. but in acoustic music i think we pretty sucks. even in light dance music we sucks. about psytracne, we have lots of producers. it's very popular here. we have big scene of psytrance in israel. and maybe because it's small country many producers get to know each other and help each other and become better and better in sound and production. about the music itself it's totally a matter of taste. many israeli producers that i realy liked started to create shit music lately.

I absolutely doubt there is any country in this world where people got sorta special skills/talent regarding producing or sound engineering.
It's all down to the individual itself, one of thousands will be special maybe no matter which nation he/she come from.
What about usa? I think there are great studios with great lots of good people behind the faders etcEspecialy when you out of the little focus on psytrance only.
As in lots of other countries as well.Nothing special with Isreali producers IMO,some are special & great some less good.

i think he was talking about psytrance. usa are the best of making commerical music today. and the best productions are coming form there obviously.

Israeli trance is my least favorite.
British, Scando and German trance is my favorite.
To be fair a lot of Israeli people can sort out a good mix, but the sounds used are the most plastic, cheesy sound sound design I have ever heard. And sound design is an integral part of production.
It is all about taste.
Peace out.

i like more the european sound too, it s no surprise there is lot of intresting sound coming out with the background europe have with music,classical...they made lof of intresting techno/psytrance since the early days , the musical culture might help, but after all its just about taste.

I don't know,in Israel,if you get in the production scene,I think you can meet folks that do the same in no time, its a small place after all (hell,I found some guys in my uni,and its the biggest uptight place in that part of middle east)..Working with someone usually speedens the learning curve.
Not mentioning the fact that it is popular, much less then it was during 90's,but popular non the less. And also add the fact that Israeli folks do like to travel a lot, which in my opinion is numero uno factor in creativity (smoking joints half way across the world is wonderfull, wish I could afford it much).
About music itself,I don't know, maybe mixing wize and mastering wize the Israeli guys know their shit, but lately I haven't heard much Israeli folks that do good stuff, somehow many people here tend to do cheesy fullon stuff right now,I personally cannot find much psychedelic in it,at least not my kind. |

I think Israeli trance music has a very distinct style , i think you are in love with the style rather then their advanced audio techniques if there were levels in that. It all comes down to experimenting and experience imo . However with israeli music alot of them have learnt many of the tricks shared and passed down from famous artists at one time, which is being recycled again , its not news.
It would be nice to hear what comes out of isolation . If all of us were put in a bunker with musical gear ,absolutely no outside interference and told to write down music , that would be unique

thanks everyone for posting your thougts in this subject, and i knew it would be a lot of interest in who is better, and thats not what im saying, in music there is no way of saying this is better thant that, but production wise you can definetly say this is better than that, and israelis are allways, since psy trance started a step ahead, what im trying to say is that sound is slippery in a way, but it gives me the feeling that they know how to take absolute control over every single fucking thing, and the only way of doing this is experimenting in every single detail and aspects of music until you find whats best, and to do this by yourself would take a shit load of time and trial and error for a lot time,.. so of course there is knoledge passed from one to another, but its pretty obvious that this knoledge is kept very jelously. And the fact that they are israeli doesnt mean anything to me, but its where the knoledge is..... and in response to some of you.. taste has nothing to do with recognising very well crafted and pollished productions, taste has to do with what touches you and conects to you, so im not saying YOU HAVE TO LIKE israeli psy, but without doubt if we consider to have a good ear and can tell our egos to fuck of for a wile, we can see that the way they craft audio is amazing.

thats exactly what im trying to say, specific to psy, they do pass production skills to other people but that knoledge is kept there |

this is simply rubbish mate, honestly. i all comes down to taste as stated before but there is no country with special skills..
there are so many good artists in psy coming from all over the world it should be quite clear and obvious...

taste is about what you like which is a relative state, but productions skills and detail, and control over freq etc. is something you can actualy hear and aknoledge, jaja i dont know how to write that one, but you understand |

No its not about taste , they do have good production levels for sure i for one will acknowledge that . But they have all learnt from each other the tricks of the trade that work ,everything from their presets to their samples are linked . Their techniques for example they will start their kick n bass at a certain value like -7db or something and every sound built over that is mixed to that relative level they will boost their bass at 80hz, eqs for other sounds are crafted the same way. This thing is common to other countries too but you find diverse music in other countries because there arent that many trance producers compared to israel , i think in israel every Building has 1 producer and they know each other well and somehow they keep their tricks to themselves and rightfully but they almost sound the same in their breaks, melodies , percussions and whole lot of things , that imo is boring

I disagree. Israelis have hit the "ceiling" of a well mix, filled with sounds that are too "plastic" and clinical". Yes they have clean kicks and basslines, but in terms of mangled up psychedelic sound design, they never came even close to the heavyness of the European bottom end (not in amount, but in character) and the twisted leads and atmospheres. The passing down of knowledge might have had something to do with this. I mean everything sounds so "samey" be it full-on or prog releases.
Peace out.

production quality depends mostly of the studio you are traped in and producer experience ,there is no magic... a place where there is more money in the buisness might get better studios and more well produced music in the end, it s just a speculation and maybe not reflect reality.
if you think in israel the average production is better (something debatable) that the only explication i can see.

Studios do help getting better mixes, but I have heard shit music coming out of expensive studios. For a given level of "skill" one would end up getting better mixes in a proper studio. BUT there is one thing people need to understand, production and engineering.
Simple example: Quincy Jones is a worldwide famous producer and he produced Michael Jackson's Thriller album, THE best selling album of all time. Yet the person who engineered the music, was Bruce Swedien. Production does not only mean "a nice sounding mix", it means selection of sounds/sound design, some would say arrangement.
In which case, Israelis are great at mixing tunes down, Eqing things to sound nice and clean, yet are seriously lacking in the production area, especially because of their "plastic/clinical" sound design, which is also subjective. One might say Infected Mushroom's leads are amazing, whereas one would say they are cheesy as hell.
Peace out.

Very nice topic, something i've already thought.
I'd like to make some comments
- Maybe this was the real gift from YHVH to the jews you know? Killer Psytrance production skills!
No, really...
- Many made the point that they have a big scene in a small country so it is easy for they to meet and share technique, vsts and samples.
- It's a real industry there, this guys like Boa Group own many of the most commercial fullon labels surely there are just a few guys mastering all their work so it sounds similar.
- I do agree that Israel ppl have something special in their production maybe not that superior like you stated in your first post but they do have this certain crisp in sound and not only quality but the overall drive in israeli psy and fullon you know classic fullon build ups and psy trickery it is very recognizable and perhaps it is what most people who don't like full on hate.
- Personally I like it a lot but think it was much better some years ago... I mean guys like Astrix and of course IM did great stuff that changed the psytrance concept, nowadays they seem so stuck, most of the old acts are now cheesy techno that is nothing but the same over and over.
- Many of the great names from Israel are very undesirable people... i can say from personal experience after being at backstage several times when peeps like this when they come to my country I was totally disappointed to see what kind of persons they really are, stuck up diva like psypop arrogant scumbags... maybe this is not because they are from Israel but because they travel around the globe hitting play and dancing on stage (many of the cheese psytrance acts there are just play acts) and getting payed.
- One thing that gets my attention around this forum is that this guys are not here or at least they don't post. I've seen posts from guys like Vibe Tribe from years ago but nowadays this forum is populated with no so much genuine isratrancers.
Well... that's it
MHO
Personally i prefer South African and Mexican psytrance, European is not bad either |
