amen to that! since i am a poor college student, i could possibly scrape up enough gas money and shit to make it out to CO, but unfortunately Cali is outta the question for me this year since it is such a financially unstable time of my life.
hopefully some day money wont be an issue, but until then, im crossing my fingers that AUM gets moved to Colorado!

for some reason it's real difficult to find good private land here that's less than 2 hours away from Denver or not at 9000+ feet elevation - which will give all the lowlanders headaches.
i'd check in the Red Feather Lakes area by FtC, there are a few tourist ranches there. They had a big festival there couple of years back. probably way too expensive, but worth a try.

Let's restate: AUM was originally conceived to bring together the various trance communities from around the US. Practically speaking, this means that various organizers around the country collaborate in putting this together. In addition, highlighting DJ/artists from the US, any random straggler international artists are welcome. Last time, we had a Swedish artist [what was his name dammit!?] play since he was "in the neighborhood". Virtually all other festivals are organized by a single group. This is the key difference. Correct me if i'm wrong. This lets us share the work and financial burden. In some ways the "risk factor" is reduced, that is- are you going to put a festival on and lose $10K? Ideally, each organization would earmark some funds for contribution. How they raise those funds in their prerogative. Of course we don't want to degenerate into a "pay-to-play" scenario where, for example, one org puts in $2K and another $200 and expect to divvy the PA time accordingly. I would weigh US producers heavily ;^) in the lineup, hey, homespun music in all its glory and flatulence. In general nobody gets paid for the gig, so talent costs are low.
From past experience, because the music came in from all-around, there was no stylistic focus per-se. If it ends up being all dark then we have just learned that there seems to be consensus of taste. I seriously doubt that's going to happen. I thought we had a good mix last time.
I liked the Arkansas site because it was kind of left alone by the cops, who were distracted by the biker convention in the nearby town. The lake was fantastic! I'm also used to the wet-heat. You gotta earn your trance-scout badges somehow. Tom, you get your "high-heat-humidity" aka "triple-H" badge. For me, it goes with the "well-below-freezing" aka "butt-f_kin'-cold" badge I got from Colorado. I also have a "Fire-up a 30KW generator because the crew has disappeared" badge, from Burning Man.
We got maybe 200 people last time and I met people from all parts. This is what it's all about! I was impressed that so many people traveled so far. I don't expect a "blow-up" in attendance, I'm not sure that's ever happened in psytrance. If you have it in Cali then I would venture to guess 500 people max. Look at it this way, you've got Gemini, a free event with some international talent, and talent from around the US and I believe they had around 500, why would AUM have more?
The good thing about Cali is that it IS easily accessible with competitive flights, if you don't have the time to drive [a most-excellent adventure of itself]. And, I can probably drive down from Washington state, good for me.
food for thought.

Thank You for bringing AUM to Cali this year. I moved to LA from Northwest Arkansas and was really disappointed when I could not make it back for AUM this time past.

Yea, Arkansas was great..... unfortunately, and for reasons that will remain unsaid, DO NOT PUT IT IN EUREKA.... the only option I can think of in Arkansas is the site where Wakarusa will be held....this is an old time commune with idealism at the core out the wazoo, and is perfect for both large and small events, small because if you've only got say 300 people, the whole tree covered main amphitheatre can be the dancefloor, then the camping in amongst the trees, then a chill stage on the other side....this site is about 20 miles from where LAST years rainbow was thrown (although they've all left town, thank god), and has little trouble with the police.... there are lots of routes in, a spring creek RIVER (Mulberry River), beautiful ozark cliffs surrounding, and that MIDDLE of the COUNTRY tag that seems to be an important part of AUM
And I am more than willing to contribute financially, and of course I'd love to play, but thats not the point in donating funds.... I told the organizers (which, I understand the main organizers were under the impression that the only person to talk to about throwing a psy event hear is Freedom, aka Casey...whom has passed the flame down to several others, all of whom were very excited to help with the more important parts of AUM's structure that could be handled before the sacrificial wine arrived, but felt way underutilized) that we were ready to work our assess off for the month before they got here, and for whatever reason, probably that they just felt so swamped, we never heard too much back... Whether or not this is in AR, I agree with the Onnomaster that local crew's input, if there is one, is ESSSSSSENTIAL....
And, if there had been promo materials here, at LEAST another 100 T-R-A-N-C-E-R-S would have made it out

Ya everything I have found is way out there, or 2-3 thousand a night but I am still looking... if not for AUM this year, then to just have a list of available sites for the future.

Even tho the weather in Cali is great..it is a big tourist trap with exorbitant prices for everything..
oregon would be a much better for location if it has to be a coast area. |

i never noticed any huge difference in the price of beer between one state and the next.
actually, New York has by far the most expensive six packs. ten bucks for 6 lousy beers!! ..it's just another party.. |
