Dimitry, LA Green Sector and Psytribe events used to break the 1000 mark relativly frequently.
However i agree, that putting this event in CA, takes away from its intention. Whats going to make it any different than any other west coast show?
The lineup? Probably not. Most organizers in recent years have taken to focusing on more domestic and less international talent.
Though coast to coast airfares are cheaper, and yes CA will most likely be more hospitable tempurture wise, and no chiggers, i think this move makes this "just another party", and not something inclusive to everybody else like it first set out to be....

that may be, but on the other hand, how many people from outside the immediate surrounding area would come out to a festival in Minnesota or Texas? I think in California it actually has the possibility of having a wider US representation. Maybe a New Yorker or two would even come out, haha.

Hasn't their been enough controversy in California between organizers over the specific style of psy that AUM focuses on ?
From our experience of AUM, the magic of the festival was the style of sound it was pushing along with the attitude of the people to that sound. All the while people in the midwest saw that genre as Dark and AUM changed a lot of perspectives. I haven't spent much time in Cali but it does give the impression that people are already jaded. Do you think the same awe could be created out there?
I say all this with the assumption that the organizers are trying to do the same thing that they did with the first. Chances of getting more people in Cali are much higher than any other spot in the states... especially for a focused style of sound. Would be a good festival no matter where it goes but if you see it as something to make a change, places in the south and midwest are the ones that need it the most.
All the best to the organizers whichever way it goes... bigger plans keep us in India this year but hoping to be back to AUM as soon as the wind blows west.

I too was hoping that it would be outside of Cali, but I'll go wherever it is. Though, if it's in the Mojave during 4th of July weekend, I'll be less than pleased.
I think having it there combined with other larger scale events happening in Cali less that during the summer will make it very difficult to get a full representation of the US scene. Lots of people work, and flying out to Cali twice will be very difficult to do.

Although I too have some feelings of "oh I wish it was here..."
I think at this point we need to focus on the fact that it is happening! California is a beautiful place with access to many airports, yummy natural food, relaxed opinions of marijuana and a general public who doesn't really give a fuck about a bunch of people dancing in the woods.
I for one am just happy to hear AUM in a sentence, and wish people would remain positive for the sake of the energy of the event.

is northern cali out of the question? I'd rather have it in a majestic forest than a desert, especially in the heat of summer. northern cali has some beautiful forests and it would probably entice more oregon and washington kids to come down..
I guess the majority of the psy scene in cali is more central or southern located..
I just never hear about anyone stomping down in the old growth.. and thats a shame.

did GM really hit 1000 people? I was there in '05 and there were maybe 700 folks there.
But again, we're talking about West Coast and East Coast. Most of the events in between are much smaller in comparison.

I think California is probably the most psytrance friendly state, I mean no disrespect to other states but California parties really kickass.I mean in most other states you get caught puffin a joint and you go to jail, in california you get a ticket. Like mentioned earlier there are airports everywhere. The core crowd of trancers in California is a pretty decent size and its also a nice mix of people from all over the world. Plus California is beautiful, whether its the mojave or forests its absolute eye candy

Granted I am not privy to all the info behind closed doors, but in talks with a certain CA native there's only one person truly actively looking for a venue. I know that Jeff/Adrienne proposed Texas, and the Minnesota thing has been tossed around. I think it boils down to who finds a venue that can truly be secured and is appropriate, and whether or not that jells with the organizers. If its Cali so be it, if its Rhode Island so be it........all this chatter is moot unless those in charge of organizing get in here and tell us whats up. If it strays away from the orginal intention then everyone else has to adjust or not go.
About having 1,000+ in attendence.....as long as the organizers have suitable help across the board to handle such a number then bring it I guess. This also boils down to what the intention is. Is this a festival for psytrancers, or is this boat being steered to an multi-genre festival. If it is multi-genre would the point be to turn people on to this music, or is it for $$$ @ the door? At the sametime a festival geared towards that size is also going to require a boatload of cash upfront. At AUM those porto-potties were quite hazardous by saturday.
So, do any of the people directly responsible care to chime in and shed some light on any of the matters brought up in the thread? It would help to give a better perspective to the masses, and let us know what or the original intentions are still in place.
Thanks to all who are playing a role in making this happen again; I am very much looking forward to it

I am always actively looking for land in CO, so if i find something suitable I will speak up... because really we are the perfect state: in the middle, weed friendly and super beautiful. |
