A Track From Scratch....

I like to start out with the main element, often it's a groove or a melody. Then i decide what kind of track structure i want to use and i pour the main elements into this form. After that i build the harmonic and rhytmic structure around the main elements. I only started doing this a few tracks ago, and i find it easier to create a coherent track this way. Building a track from the kick and the bass up often led to the same kind of results because i limited the number of possible melodies and grooves.

I feel weired , I never tried the kick and bass first by myself. I always started with the main idea which is a huge sound fx or melody and build the story around it. maybe that's why I have so few
of course I worked with freinds who did just that.           "a new art came into my mind which only you can create, the Art of Noises, the logical consequence of your marvelous innovations." Russolo, 1913

I used to work like this too but when the lines were ready and I used to start working on the groove than I had a huge problem with eqs and mixing.
Since I started starting a track from the groove my music improved a real lot though.

Another good way to start a track would also be in some cases to start with a pad (atmosphere) if you're gonna use one.

Dont listen to the loops to much when you have something nice done, i know lots of friends who hipnotize themselves with some nice going bits of music and dont go further in the arrangement after a while they get bored with the sounds ... when actually the sounds are good !!!

Go further develop the arrangement try to finish the track briefly

try starting with a breakbeat and build your bass and melody around that, it will change the bassline completely.

indeed !!!...this is happening to me all the time...Maybe because i always try to mix the track in the same time with the construction, and i listen the track elements to many times, untill i get bored of it. I never can't wait untill the track is finished and only than, to do the mix. I always wanna hear the track on maximum quallity...fuck !!! I am addicted to perfection !!! hehe
Need to change my style !!!

same thing happening to me, exactly.. sometimes i even force myself switching off the sequencer and go out for a while.
i thought it was workflow wise, as i had hard time writting all ideas as they come very fast... and fade out very fast too...
but now i'm convinced it's certainly too much perfectionism, you now when you scroll that loop again and again to find THAT break.
what i tend to do now is to write one parts then write another part, 'where i think the tracks should be going"... like preparing a route and then driving the car to destination..
one thing.. sound ideas are top priority. your ideas come then go. your mixing skills should be still there

if your friends are getting bored of the sounds after listening to them for a few loop takes then i duno..

when i make tunes...the prerequisite for any sound i may use is that i can listen to it over and over and work with it and love that sound....if at any point i start to dislike the sound,...i delete it...i think one has to be ruthless with ur sounds , if somthign isnt working...be prepared to delete and start over...anyways

my method ,,,...

i usually first do a bit of sound design,....build a nice lead patch or a 2nd lead...often its just some sorta super duper 303 type of sound i happen to design some how or the other , i then write one bar for that sound...so its a riff now and spend alot of time tweeking the riff and the sound;...then i start working on progressions....i more than often or not add a kick or bass to this...but this isnt my final kick and bass, this kick-bass is just a reference for now....so i write my progressions..sometimes i change the actual riff notes, sometimes i create sound progressions using the filters and the LFO, etc etc...a bit of both...whatever i feel like...

anyways this is how i create a body for the track....

now i find that perfect kick....that perfect bass.....work on those till i got one bar sounding A and tight...

next i add like a closed hihat...i leave my open hi and snare for later...

then i start at the beginning,...and i write in stages of about 10 bars at a time....from beginning to end...adding anything that the track may need as i go along...i rarely think about my tracks when i am not working on them...it just all comes to me when i sit infront opf the controls....and yea....there isnt really any particular order i do things except for the creating some sounds and laying down the kick and bass first...

i just think do wqhatever you feel comfortably doing....and what works for you!!

I dont do the drugs....I AM the drugs
