Hello people!

i would like to get a better grip at mixing my elements..

maybe a little insight in which stage the mixing occurs, is it one of the last steps of creation or do you think its a evolving procedure that goes throught the whole process of creating the sounds, or is this a genre based aspect?

i seldom come to the mixing stage, which i think is one of the most interesting stage except for the creation stage... i guess all stages of creating a song is interesting and some more fun and some less fun...

i would like to have every part recorded to audio and be happy with the overall harmony and melody and structure and get on with mixing...

If anyone feel that they could give me some nice advice, advice on preparing for mixing and parameters to think about, it would be real nice..

is it good practise to turn down all the faders in the begining of mixing stage,

A book might be a good thing, but which one?

Cheers everyone!

I mix all the way through the track, I think I set the kick drum at -6db and do everything around that. It starts off really rough, and obviously some elements change volume at some points, but when the track is done, its pretty much mixed itself. I couldn't create everything and do it last or you wouldn't hear things in the context they're supposed to be in.

I can't really advise you as everyone must have their own way of doing it. My way might not be best for you, it's just how I like to work. (Or perhaps, the only way I know how)

There are potentially many different ways to mix a track too, with different parts being higher or lower depending on your preference. As long as it works, and you like it, I don't see what else there is to say.

When arranging the track a pre-mixing occurs automatically and necessarily in order for the the elements to be clearly audible while creating the structure.

Personally, the final mix down i make it only when i'm totally finished with the arrangement and all the details. And after i finish with it, i take some rest for a couple of days and the listen back to it with fresh ears and check if there's anything to be corrected or not.           A friend told me once that the biggest mistake we make is that we believe we live, when in reality we are sleeping in the waiting room of life.

i do like alex, i need the beat and bassline to sound clear from the start, usally i focus one day only on the beat and next day start the arrengment ,i m more in trance when it sounds good and it give me better idea for creation,i know some people making all the track and after they mix it but i think it s too much work ,you have to change samples, presets ...when i do like this the sound is not as good in the end.

try this... work how alex reccomended till ur 99% done, and then pull all your faders down and then start mixing the track fader by fader, as per the flow of the song...

also abt mixing kik bass at -6, thats what most people reccommend (accross all genres), but im convinced thats not the best for trance, just because the bass is so imp doesnt mean it needs to take space meant for ur mids and highs.... but this, mix it at -8/-10 (-10 bit xtreme) and see how much more space ur mix has now...

i had this reccomended by a pro, and its made the most fantastic difference to my tracks... bass is no longer jarring or unclear, sits beautifully where it shoul be.

good tip raul, i used to mix around -8 and even lower for a while, then i started mixing closer to -6, -5.

some of my tunes that had -8 mixing always sounded crisp to me and i never figured out why.

perhaps this is indeed a thing to look at, mix your kick/bass a tad lower.

less preasure, more space and more room for whoever masters it to manipulate.
