I have encountered a problem concerning samples which I have cut out of documentaries and movies. In a lot of the samples there is music behind the dialog. I have solved this problem by firstly by using samples where there is no music behind the dialog, secondly I have tried to equalize the interfering music out (I have even used a vocoder in some instances), but I honestly feel that the result is not sufficient. Does anyone of you guys have a better idea of how to cut out the samples?
I use the following programs:
Fruity loops 5.
CUBASE SX 2,2
Reason 2,5
Soundforge 7,0

gate the sample, its impossible to remove the frequencies with the music, BUT if you gate it well, the background should be silent when there is no talking...
hmm, did not explain that well but try playing around with a compressor/gate

ok well
gate as c1 (not trancegate which "chops" the sound like in vanguard) actually makes silence whenever the volume is lower then where u set your "gate open" point. u can use attack and realese for enveloping its impact...           www.sattelbattle.com

well...you could cut out only the parts,
of the vocals, and then you dont have to
gate out the music, but realy, thers nothing
you could do, besides getting samples
with no music in the backround, if you eq
out the main frequencies were the music is most noticable, you might cut out also
important frequencies of the speech...
what you can do is try ussing the waves m1
(i think thats how its called) wich gives
you control over the sound spectrum, and
if the vocal is in the middle of your
panning spectrum, you can try and get rid of the signals from left and right and
try leaving only the ceter, were the speach
might sometimes be, with no music...
