ok, this is an innocent question and i would really appreciate an answer. now if i get unreleased tracks from someone in mp3 format, then technicaly its ok right ? i mean, im not depriving the artist of any income or anything, and i buy their albums anyway. and i know that people like to keep unreleased stuff within a pretty tight circle, so its not as if im going to spread it all over the net .. so the question is .. trading unreleased mp3s in a small group is technically ok right ?> |

its not OK, keep it to yourself.. the idea is not to 'trade' it for anything! |

The artist didn't want you to have his track. What you are doing is exactly like breaking into his studio and stealing his tracks from there. |

generally, it is o.k. many of the dj's just want to be heard. the beuaty of this counter-culture is that it is not a corporate conglomorate. so acts like moby, or any of the other corporate mongers (i'm not attacking the music, just the monger)may have a problem with it. i think the music wants to be heard as well, so you can take an esoteric standpoint and be comfortable with it, i do... many blessings |

wow .. very mixed opinions .. mike, you seem to be in the minority here, but i see your point of view. this does happen all the time though, i guess its just the odd idiot ( hat would be me ! ) who actually decides to talk about it .. still thinking .. |

he's not the minority. it's just a rehashed topic which most of us don't wish to become involved in. |

I think its ok to trade stuff. If i made music I would like to see people trading it. aI mean if the track sucked that means you wouldnt see people trading it. But on the other hand as a dj i would not want the track spreading to far(like going on AG, which just kills the meaning of unreleased). But this is only concerning the unreleased stuff or promo stuff. Released stuff, go out n buy it! |

unreleased tracks are good to play on parties there's no use to trade. I'd buy a realeased one better to listen at home. If you sell them to someone it wouldn't be interesting to play them in your set |

well, the topic is turning a bit, but in response to stoned2max and skopus, ive always found that a mix between unreleased stuff and released works really well - when a crowd is warming up and they hear a track they know and love, it really makes them fly .. ive seen it, played it, experienced it ..
thats my two rupees :) |
