Why is it that most labels do not sell thier track in individually on their sites (like for eg.parvati records does it )..

i think there are many people who would like to get some of the tracks they love on wav or good quality mp3 but can not buy it as of

1- the cds are not available any more (anywhere)
or
2 - they dont like the whole album but just a few tracks on it ..

wont making indiviaul tracks available for purchase for the label site increase the income from their releases ..??

or is it too much of a financial burden to put up these tracks for downloads??

also one more question i noticed that some of the older VAs /albums on parvati records is not available for download ??
any idea why ?

thanks ,

sure that is an option. But many tracks you cant find on these sites. Which is partly due to beatports label policy (no small labels really).

keeping back logs available for downloads is going to get the labels alot more money - it becomes like an impulse buy almost - especially when wavs are priced at like a 1-1.5$ each
and with the new shift towards the digital ep gaining popularity - most labels should seriously consider setting up an online shop of some type

imo vagalume records seems to be doing an awesome job - they have a great selection of online ep's available through the usual sites (beatport, etc.)           www.soundcloud.com/ishikawa

are talking about purchasing tracks for personal collection or are talking about purchasing tracks with all the intellectual property rights (copyright etc)? i am sure all labels would make a track specially for you for the latter if you give them a good amount...but the problem is it will be leaked before it comes to you..and thus labels go broke           When death comes to your doorstep, make sure you are alive

parasitic middlemen such as online portals serves no one any good, when speaking of music with such a narrow demographic.
It´s the old story of distributors but with a WWW twist. The only proper option is for any label to sell directly to the fans that want the music and use the internet for promoting themselves and the artists signed. I know that it´s possible to do short run releases and have them sold out (printing cd´s), without the interference of middlemen. If the product is deemed valuable by the fans of said product it will sell, provided people know about it. Most labels back catalogue is certainly quite easy to manage from an ecommerce point of view, and a download shop can be implemented in many ways with more or less effort. Sure more work for the label applying this DIY attitude, but the reality is that, right now no one can afford to sit on their ass and hope the golden doves fly in through the window. With regards to the webshop of Parvati records i will assume that missing content will be added as soon as they can. It´s a small label in financial terms and they do everything out of love and with a definite DIY attitude i wish more of in this world. I am sure they would be able to better deliver an update, but i am positive that the webshop will get stocked with more releases for download as they find the time (and bandwidth) for it           Mastering available here:

@khan ... please read what i worte again ...im not talkling about beat port or juno ...we all know that theres not much to choose from on both the sites

my question is why arent more labels selling thier music directly on their own sites ...

i believe that this will increase the over all sales and the labels will be benefit more regardless of the fact that it is leaked or available as illegal downloads on p2ps etc...

most people in the scene now adays will not buy 5 to 10 releases every month as it is expensive (adding to the fact that psy trance cds do not have distribution in most music shops and online portals like saikosounds, psy shop takes time for delivery and costs extra on postage...

the label should start managing to sell thier tracks directly to thier fans on thier own sites...but not many labels do this ...

@ mono thanks for you r feedback ...i agree with u and believe that it s about time the labels remove the middle men and start doin things them selves @ a time when its all about downloading in the first place...

i for one would buy more individual tracks from my fav labels if they would be directly available online than waiting a 5 to 10 days for saikosunds or psyshop to deliver it (this all after paying extra for postage)...

Because it is easier to whine than to do something productive.           Everyone in the world is doing something without me

so how come we don't see more of this? i'm just trying to understand what's the biggest thing that prevents labels from doing this.

is it the web development/coding part? is it the credit card processing and security part? is it the hosting and bandwidth costs?           https://soundcloud.com/dead-end-dance

This is not true. Beat Agency is a very small label (zero releases so far) and we have just been accepted into Beatport.

I guess the reason why not many labels offer their tracks on their websites is that it's not financially a good idea. It cost more than you can gain in promotion and to keep the shop running.

If people would buy more music then I am sure many labels would get into selling music via their websites.           www.beatagency.dk

then what's the downside of going with a service, like Cytopia? it doesn't look like there are any upfront costs. you have the say of how much the tracks should be sold for. and you can get up to 60% of profits. i can't see a single reason NOT to do this for their back catalog, especially if there's no desire to re-press the CDs.           https://soundcloud.com/dead-end-dance
