Why are people at the labels always complaining about mp3, piracy and shared music if they can release on vinyl and end the whole problem?
There would be less dj´s playing low quality music. |

Sorry but what is that a dumb idea?
People want to listen to music at home, and i am glad that we now have cds and i never go back to vinyl.
Vinyl is gone dude.

For me the question is:
"Why are people at the labels always complaining about mp3, piracy and shared music if they can" put out high quality mp3 for sale on their websites themselves?
People then would have the choice, if they want to buy a whole CD, with coverart..., or if they just want to buy some tracks they like and miss out on the rest.
I think a lot of the people are pirating, because they don't agree with high prizes and don't like to pay for a CD when there are only two or three tracks on it they like.
mp3s could be offered cheaper, because you don't have to give money to the distributer and shop. All the money payed would go to the label and artist. |

Even if the Label sell High Quality Track they can't compete with some thing that is free, it really a shame...

If they can provide a better service than the free outlets, maybe they have a chance at least.
Tell me one lable that have tried to compete? People find it a lot more convenient to download music, and the lables don't give the possiblity, therefore screwing themself up.
And then to complain about the fans behaviour, great shame. |

Yes, there will be pirating, as long as there are people that only like to take and not to give.
Insomniac, I don't think I got the perfect solution here, but to offer people a choice, by selling mp3s themselves, is imo the best the labels can make out of this situation. |

anything free is attractive.............
quality also is not good enough to get sales in most cases unless one is a very moral person and a collector of psytrance cds
like people have said sell high bit rate MP3s to people

Yeah, i think labels have to try something really fast..
But the big question is what can they do against this?

There is many things lables could do to justify their existance.
The most logical would be to aim for a cut of where the real money is: live gig's.
Put more work into promoting the artists and charge some 20% of the gig fees.
And if at least one label had instant digital delivery there could be complains that it's not working. But until you tried you don't know.
I just put up such a system myself, but I'm not running a lable as such. But offering 128k mp3's for free downloading I had many people requesting hi-res downloads.
Don't think it will be a great business, but a lable which already has many followers could probably sell a few downloads.
Combining CD sales internet downloads and promotion/management should work out ok if done well I believe. |

How about releasing a low quality music, so the mp3 will be bad, almost unhearable ehehehe |

Hey friends this is Bim from Midijum and maybe i have here some answer.
1.The Vinyl price is fucking high and the money that you get back from the distribution is nearly the same what you are pay for the production.
When you are doing a online shop with mp3 files will be nothing change about when you release a cd.
About the ppl will swap music and when one person is doing a download so he will share it with other ppl via internett.Than you have to pay the server and the most expensive story is the credit card service.you have to pay nearly 500 euro each year for this and this are a lot of download before this is payed. Also mp3 will never have the same qualitie than a cd.This moment the market breakes down more and more about the copying and only 10% of or szene will buy permanent a cd. So when do now a black and white cover or you do annything sheeper on the product it will be not more intresting for this 10% to buy this cd about in the end it will be not more different than a burning cd.There is no solution for this problem and in the end will be a few Label left .Like Hommega , Bne or Tip about this Label has the best output in the World and so very good sales. So for all other Label on the Market it dont looks so good and its for me only a Question of Time that all other Label will running down. And in the End we will listen on the Party only the Music from the last Label. Can be boaring in the end.
Copy kills our music but in the end it goes there where it come from. The Underground |

Well you don't need a merchant account to sell some downloads.
Paypal charges 2-3% + $0.3 per purchase.
That means that you net normally about 80% of what the customer pay's, compared to around 15% on a CD.
Many ppl have good connections nowadays and can download lossless formats for CD quality. |
