a question about percussions...

hello there...
i've been using FL to create my tunes but i feel my tracks are kinda empty...
my friend told me i should use more percussions and i would like to know which ones u guyz use and recommand me to use and how...
i use hi-hats and stuff but not percussions cuz i really dont know how to put them :\

There's no recipe really on which percussion to use or how to use them.My advice is :
Let the track play and at the same time start clicking on percussion samples on the sample browser , so you can hear if they fit in the track and if they sound nice
together (like the one playing after the other).
Once you do that ,choose a group of them (or more than one group) and build some loops.I usually pick a couple of groups of four or eight samples and work with them.

talking on vst instruments, you could try the swarplug from swar systems, that if i'm not mistaken comes with midi files to give the user an idea for the different intruments... a vst that worth the money for the brilliant good sounding collection of indian instruments
