Im working on a track now and the bass is tripping me out for a long time....instead of it sounding kbbb which it is it sounds like KBstraight.......so i shortened the notes like this..

is this the "right" way....or should each note be a bit longer..
like this it sounds much better.           www.soundcloud.com/kabbalisticvillage

You should upload that so we can take a listen. Also, even when i'm playing with a long ass bass, it still sounds "noted" as i put in a kbbb pattern going.

Depends on what i'm trying to achieve, but, in essence, if i wish to have stability, i don't leave to many "holes" between my notes.

i keep sustain and release at a minimum, so i get by with a note length of nearly a 1/16th. sometimes the notes can be quite a bit shorter (or longer ) if the groove demands it.

Depends on the tempo. usually i make a 16th note, then zoom way in and shorten it by 2/256ths or 3/256ths.

Use a filter envelope on your bass too if you dont. That will help.           --

One of the things that always astounds me is hearing that people always use the same length for bass notes...

Change it up! Adding a bunch of small variations to your bass note's length and velocity parameters can give VERY important groove characteristics and take a lifeless, boring bass and make it into one that you might actually want to dance to            If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe

If I feel the synth enveloppe is not tight enough, I shorten the bass notes, but usually it's 1/16th.

And +1 with willtranquil on adding variations to it, can lead to awesome results           http://www.soundcloud.com/noisecycle
