Fire Arts Festival 2002: A Celebration of Creation Through Fire and Light.
Glimmer, Glow, Sparkle, Ignite! The Bay Area's only non-profit sculpture
center, educational foundry, and metal fabrication studio invites you to
join us in toasting the longest day of the year with a festive celebration
of creation through fire and light. At this fundraising benefit, we invite
you to come in and frolic in our 17,000 sq. ft. studio, and experience
first-hand the dynamic energy of creating through fire! Proceeds from the
event support The Crucible's growing arts, education and community
programs, and help keep the arts alive in the Bay Area.
Fire Arts Festival for the Whole Family :
4:00 pm - 8pm; Suggested donation: $10 (kids free)
Come early and bring the kids! Sparks fly as the community converges on The
Crucible for hands-on demonstrations of welding, glassworking, neon, and
ceramics and more. Grab a hammer and try blacksmithing or stonecarving. See
molten metal pour and flow, sign up for art classes, enjoy the art, and get
the kids involved!
After Dark Revel:
8pm - 2am; $20 at the door
With an electronic hum and a sudden spark, the evening awakens. Bask in the
glow as the Ashby corridor illuminates with sinuous rills of neon and the
shimmering heat of molten metal. Dance and drink as plasma floats through
the air and fire glints off revelers--while exotics, pyrophilic performers,
aerial acts, DJs, and musicians bend sound into light.
Delights await, including:
* Unique performances, featuring DJ Vordo, Aiye! Capoeira, Apsara,
Capacitor, Copper Wimmin, Aerialist Benn Mendoza, Mark Growden, UltraGypsy,
VJ-Luna and Velocity Circus presents Solar & Nemesis
* Ashby-a-glow-a neon & light sculpture show along Ashby Avenue, with neon
and glowing installation artworks from local artists and members of The
Crucible community, with a Gallery opening of radiant works celebrating
creation through fire and light.
About The Crucible:
The Crucible is a non-profit art education center that fosters a
collaboration of Arts, Industry and Community. Through training in the fine
and industrial arts, The Crucible promotes creative expression, reuse of
materials and innovative design, while serving as an accessible arts venue
for the community.
