Hi there folks how are you?
Are there good enough headphones to use instead of a monitor? Reason I ask is, I will be playing around in my home home, at late night, and I dont want to wake up everyone around me and their dogs. lol
What are the good headphones for the job? They might not be accurate enough, but does any headphone get close to monitor quality? Price is an important factor as well!
Thanks a million in advance!

Tks superglue. Would I be able to use headphones with a DECENT idea of what I am doing at least?
And then I would go to my friend´s house to do a final check on his monitors. My issue is, I cant use a monitor because I would wake people up in the middle of the night. Unfair to ruin other people´s lives while having fun
Thanks! |

Headphones have plenty of uses in the studio, but it's not a good idea to do your final mix using them and nothing else. It is perfectly possible to write an entire track using headphones, as long as you mix the song mainly using monitors as well as headphones.
It is perfectly possible to mix a track at low volumes - in fact this can often give better reuslts than mixing very loud. For instance, Ott used a $75 portable cassette player to mix his Blumenkraft album on.

Ok, track writing on the headphones, and final version on a monitor, tweaking all sounds to make them enjoyable on a big system. Works?

What do you guys think about the Sennheiser HD 500? It seems like a good option at a nice price - around $90 correct?

I think the headphone's weakness in the bass. Their advantage is stereo imaging. |

I just bought the akg k240 studio and it ROCKS! ANd UIU: I can say that the bass on the akg 240s is WAY better than on average hifi speakers. Now I can hear very clearly the difference between frequencies in the bass, whicj I couldn't on my speakers without putting them absurdly loud. Offcourse I don't owe monitors, probably they're much better for producing. But I have the same neighbourproblem as illuminati and I'd say: go for good headphones! Beats ordinary speakers! |
