I think he expressed himself wrong, this doesnt look like a highschool project, looks like this is the final project of eletrical engineering, hehe
But dude, really nice, i like your project a lot, but, i think is more interesting to do a midi controller for all synths, like with a lcd and touchscreen, and when you switch between synths, the screen interface changes to fit the synth, I think this one will rock!!
Imagine, you using midi controller touchscreen based, and when you go from vanguard to z3ta for example, the screen brings the z3ta interface!! I think that way would be more interesting, because as one dude already said, its not logical to have a hardware synth of a vst, is much more pratical to have a midi controller to control all your vsts, but this already exists, but then if you can build a midi controller based on a lcd touchscreen, that can change the interface to macth the synths and give you more control and feeling over the synths, then it will be cool as hell!!
Good look on ur project, looks very nice anyway

Itīs my final job of "Digital Interfaces Design" course...
I donīt know if is HighSchool or College...
Is a graduation course of 4 years..here in Brazil you Call "Faculdade"...
Many here as you are talking about this...but touchscreen interfaces are totally out of the concept of my project...
Iīm tying to keep the musical concept without less the technologies advantages...
the touchscreen interfaces are good for custom visual interface, but are bad for all the rest...and, mainly the tactile feedback...
My target, donīt is develop a ultra complex interface, but is show the concept in practice...
With a fisical dedicated interface you have in touch of hands all parameters to design a sound and you have the visual interface/flow of all sound composition...
With generic controllers you donīt have any visual flow, and is a bit confuse when you have 3 or 4 synths with arround 100 parameters to control...you need to choice what parameters you will control, and program the controller with banks, presets, etc...
Maybe this project can be viwed on the other side of evelotuion of control devices like you are viewing and a lot of people talk me... but i wil try to explain my point of view comparing with a Swiss penknife...
a Swiss penknife have a lot of tools, knife, shears, crack key...well, is a lot of tools in just one...
but if you need a good shear never you will find in a swiss penknife, you will need a real, good and dedicated shear...
I have a link of text of my project..

for brazilians and portuguese speakers you can read more...
sorry a bad english

So you are not in high school, you are in university...its a big difference, high school is for you ``colegio`` hehe.
But hey, i like your concept, but you can keep in mind for future projects. For me maybe is a very difficult project to achieve, but imagine a interafece like that with the touchscreen, imagine you tweaking the vanguard in the touchscreen and than changing to z3ta and tweaking the z3ta, real badass, also you can do a hybrid of touch screen with tweakers, for when you need more precise control, lets say you go to the touchscreen interface, and its like the last twaked parameters on Fl, the last tweak you touch on the screen would be the one you will have the control with the tweak, i think that way it would work nice, cause is annoying to do this with the mouse, but with your hands would be much more fast and pratical. Just a crazy ideia, but i think the day someone invent a controller like this will be a revolution in the soft synths hehe. Anyway this is just the logical point of view for a vst midi controller, why buy a specific controller for a soft synth when you can have on controller to control all your synths? But i understand the objective of your project, this is just a idea for the future if you want to enter this field.
Also good english man
Take care

That sort of thing is already possible. All you'd have to do is buy a touch screen and set it up as another monitor. There's your control surface.
The problem is it's only a slight step up from the mouse, and still lacks tactile feedback...which is the whole point of something like this.
If you like that idea though, you can get touch screens pretty cheap these days, for a smaller one. Multi touch will cost you a lot more but it's not really necessary for this kind of thing. |

yeah, i tought about the tactile thing, but we can use the touchscreen together with some knobs for example, and the last touch button on the touch screen, would be connected to the knob

Nice work psychowave, looks great.
The touchscreen idea is wicked too. The main disadvantage of using a mouse is that you can only tweak one knob at a time. Not sure how easy it would be to simulate two mice at once to tweak knobs on VSTi's though, even using a multi touch lcd. |
