but u can have one midi controller to control all of ur hardware synths too...

i'm guessing the principles you learn from the design and production of this project will also be really useful in future should you decide to build more flexible controllers.
you might even consider getting in touch with ReFX at some point once it's done, i'm sure they'd be interested. make sure you send yourself documents and pics first though just in case
best of luck, and keep us posted! |

Yah man! this is the point!
I´m going against...my english is bad to spend you the concept of my work, but i will try!
As you say..with the ultra-personalized controllers, you get the multi-instrument concept...in practice, you can control all devices with one interface, in this process you be a operator, and less a bit of the musician concept.
The interface is connected directly by tactile to your body, and visually with your brain...the controllers have a pattern, with keys, knobs, faders and finger pads...
you play a series of devices looking and touching just a one device with the same pattern...I believe thats generate a noise in your subconscious minds talking about music concept...in practice, i think if you can see the routing of sound visually and give the control of that in your hands, this get a more dynamic performance...
Other discussion is about the musicians resistance about virtual devices...
take life for a virtual device can change these opinions...
but this, is another discussion...and i need to finish my text today ! I have a pre-qualification anaylisis today, and just if my teachers approve my idea, i can continue!!
Give-me lucky!!
Thanks for all
Natan

hey Natan, theres some really interesting stuff your doing there? a little input of my own.....i think what your doing is very important, because atleast for me there comes a time when i want to be in there, in the mix, you know tweaking the parameters in real time rather than using my mouse which i'm doing now.
although there already are controllers out there, they're too damnn expensive....... please do keep us posted wigth the progress you've made with you controller:->..
btw what course would you be studying?audio engineering??
p.s. i would also like to add that this device when ready should be extremely useful while playing live, a good controller is always welcome:-> a true integration of hardware and software is whats coming our way....sounds like fun:->
what do you think about a generic controller, where you can assign various parameters onto various knobs for tweaking.... do you think you'd be involved in designing something like that in the near future?

its all about how much you hate the mouse
and i hate it alot
if i could have 5-6 great synths connected to midi sequencer and some cool samplers and load shit of fx's and a good recorder i would not make music with computer at all
but hey , to build physical fruity loops will cost milion dollar at least

I love using the mouse and keyboard. I'm extremely fast using them, faster than taking my hand off the mouse, moving it to a knob and then back again.
20 years of hand-eye co-ordination practice, it's like playing an instrument. I don't even look at the keyboard when doing shortcuts anymore.
ITB mixing is just so perfect for me. I have a Novation with automap, but I'm just faster zooming round the screen so I tend not to use it much.
The only thing that would make the mouse better was being able to use the scroll wheel on pots and faders. |

I think he expressed himself wrong, this doesnt look like a highschool project, looks like this is the final project of eletrical engineering, hehe
But dude, really nice, i like your project a lot, but, i think is more interesting to do a midi controller for all synths, like with a lcd and touchscreen, and when you switch between synths, the screen interface changes to fit the synth, I think this one will rock!!
Imagine, you using midi controller touchscreen based, and when you go from vanguard to z3ta for example, the screen brings the z3ta interface!! I think that way would be more interesting, because as one dude already said, its not logical to have a hardware synth of a vst, is much more pratical to have a midi controller to control all your vsts, but this already exists, but then if you can build a midi controller based on a lcd touchscreen, that can change the interface to macth the synths and give you more control and feeling over the synths, then it will be cool as hell!!
Good look on ur project, looks very nice anyway
