hello guys,
say i have a hi hat running through the waves c1 compressor and adjust the makeup so the initial transients end up clipping in the compressors meters, but then say i run it through an eq and do some adjusting, so ive got the sample clipping on the compressor but not after the chain of eq, does any audio artefacts come into play?? is it a good idea to stay away from clipping on the waves plugs all together? |

orbit - it's important that you use your ears.
even if it clips, it doesn't immediately mean it's wrong. Notice distortion, notice sound anomalities, if everything is smooth, then it's smooth enough for your mix.

afaik, digital clipping doesnt really bring any distortion...the only thing is that everything from the wave above 0db is cutted
means, in the worst case with a lot of clipping, it would almost transform a sine into a square wave
correct me plz if I'm wrong there

Sounds like a good description of distortion. Digital clipping certainly does distort a signal and usually in a very ugly way!

stay out of the red zone.. turn up your amp or something..
the biggest wide spreaded problems i see with peaple is to work in such low volume that anything must clip just to be able to hear it properly , bahh.
have kick in -10db , turn the volume so it sound as loud as u wanna work with it , then nothing will get clip and your mix will be much smoother
defintly ears are no.1 tool , but u allow to use the meters as well www.sattelbattle.com
