A 7 KB .jpg image? Seriously?

Well perhaps you all can see the blur of color which is now my display picture. I got a nice little picture of a bunch of waves superposition, very simple colors, edited it a little in paint. I thought in no way it would be too big.
I ended up having to reduce its size nearly 90%!! and now you can hardly make anything out. When I was getting close to the 7 KB mark I decided to save it as a .gif to save space, but NO, it HAS to be a .jpg!
So if they have such a tight limit of file size why can't we use smaller formats? A 7 KB .jpg is almost impossible.
I see other people with rather high-rez images so I assume this limit increases as you become a more senior member? Or is there some "trick" to it?
I just had to get that off my chest because it was a real pain in the ass. |

picture that will fit and still look good

Well, I guess it is certainly possible but I personally found it a big bother to have to hunt so hard just for a picture. It would be nice if the limite was more like 20 or 30 kb, just searching google it seems most pictures fall under that amount, but 7 is a stretch...oh well |

Well, mine is 7ko. If you want to reduce a picture with a good quality you have to make the good jpeg compression. Here is the answer:
Use a good software, like photoshop, resize at 72dpi and Height and width you want (like 4x4 cm), and do:
NOT "save as" to a jpeg, but "save for the web"...Then you can decide of the compression quality (beetween 70 and 80 is enough normally) and you can cheak the weight of your file...And finally you'll have a clean picture up to 7ko.

7 kb is worse than the inquisition.
I dare anyone here to drink 5 double espressos and try to make a 7 kb pic. It is just impossible.
This limit is ridiculous, I feel like I still have a severely limited dial up connection, which is equivalent to be dead, or maybe worse.
