im doing a 6/8 beat and am going crazy with some of the locations of the percussions... the stuff thats on kick is ok, the snare is ok. but the open hi- hat sounds off no matter where i put it.
what is the correct location for the open hi-hat on this kind of beat?

i quantized the rest of the percussions to sit on the 1/16T spaces so they sound "on". but for the life of me - the open hi-hat thats suppose to give the drive is just not sounding correct anywhere... am any clearer?

Surrender, may i ask...what is your reason for using 6/8.
is there any particular reason for using such a time signature?
correct me if i am wrong...
6 beats to the bar
and the you are using semiquavers?

I guess the open hihat would sit allright on every 3rd beat.

dont know if u know, but i am a chef... eggs are not my problem..... cooking tracks seems to be harder.
TRapp- i wrote 6/8 measure because of my experience here in isratrance... i wouldve said 3/4 like some simon tracks and actually lots of tracks lately that i hear this in... but 3/4 is not technically correct.... so i said what it is... 6/8 - its only a part of the track, most of it is 4/4.

Hey, I've come across the exact same problem working in 6/8, I find that depending on the track, sometimes the hihat on the 3rd beat works and sometimes it dosn't. In one track I got quite respectable results by using many faster hihats with changing accents. Another time I just put the hihat slap bang between the two kicks and got a cross rhythm (2/3) which surprisingly worked... All depends on the track though...

by 6/8, do you mean basically keeping the kick on the quarter notes and having bass and stuff in 1/8th note triplets? because in that case you'd have the hi hat on the "a" of each triplet, 1 and A 2 and A etc.. |

writing a track in 6/8 and then jumping to 4/4 or vice versa will require a serious tempo change, if you're willing to keep the same kick-per-minute count.

well it depends, if you switch from 4/4 to 6/8 keeping 8th notes at the same value then yeah, the track will get a lot slower.. because there will be 3 8th notes to each kick instead of 2.
that's why i wondered if his "6/8" was just 4/4 but using 1/8th note triplets is this track: http://ip23.dyn181.pacific.net.hk/24317.m3u |
