I work similar to this.
I have a creative portion where i choose/create sounds.
They are never processed completely at this point, i just get a groove going.
I then quickly get a basic arrangement done.
Next i convert everythign to audio and start the "logic" aspect, the mixdown or final mix.
Here i do detaled arrangement, processing, add fx`s etc.
Then i master
