Looking to invest in some studio monitors and have viewed the past threads... the question is...
IS ANYONE OUT THERE MIXING IN SURROUND SOUND YET?
Trance seems to be the perfect music for it. Has anyone been at clubs or festivals using 5.1 mixes or even just producing albums using the medium?

thinking about this for a long time. There could not be anything cooler than beeing sorrounded by sound... 100.20 system in a 360 construction with u in the middle, and speakers everywhere, even under and over you!  |

you're already surrounded by sound 
ppl are mixing in surround, but most of it for dvd-video
dvd-audio isn't popular enough yet, but you don't have to wait...

Well, I guess surround has to start somewhere. There are some new technologies out now that are very promising.

Ive looked at building a surround setup and the cheapest thing i could come up would be to get a delta 10/10lt sound card and m-audio studiophile surround(just 5 matching cheap speakers for like 300 bucks.)
I really dont see clubs getting to into this though, i mean it cost enough to have a good sound system in stereo then multiply that by 2.5 for surround. There is also the problem that its not going to sound that surround if your not in near the sweet spot crowd wise.
I would think more downtempo/ambient stuff for home listening that people could just play back via a dvd on their home theater systems would be the way to go at this point. |
