This is called the time signature, and it implies how the music is written. 4/4 means that there are 4 beats/bar (quarter notes)... You count to 4 and then start over again...

simple. every bar has four beats (kick drum)defining the groove.
this post should've gone to the equipment and music creation section, i think.           "We Do Not Allways See Things As They Are. We See Things As We Are" -Ancient Chinese Proverb

Trance changing between 4/4 and 3/8 is slick... like Hallucinogen - Horrorgram...

About Dark Soho - Combustion... It's still a 4/4 beat, but I believe the bassline is programmed in triplets, which makes each of the notes in the bassline slower so that it only has 3 notes/beat instead of the regular 4...

That also go for the Hallucinogen track I mentioned above, so forget about the 3/8 beat there...

Here's a link that explains more about different time signatures...

Superglue mate,
Walz 3/4 are not really what it is in trance.
what u mean is the 3/8 or 6/8...

because the kick falls on every beat, there are basicaly 3 kicks in one bar. You can hear this in Snakey Shaker by hallusinogen.

the regular jigz so called 3/4 in te music world - are not falling as the same in trance - couse u'd need to play these kicks in very high bpms - higher than most hardcore. so it's just 3/8....           Crackling universes dive into their own neverending crackle...

It's the same with simple 4/4 in trance.

in trance we do a bit different measurment - we put every kick on every beat in a bar. so 4/4 is 4 kicks in one bar.
same with 3/4 - 3 kicks in one bar - it's definately not walz like.

but 3/8 is much more walz like - snakey shaker like also. That's all.

just remember that in trance it's bit different because we count the bpm with kicks.
