And i think it can be problematic also to create a GOOD mixdown in mp3 from mp3s (due to the double compression).

Yeah this will sound REALLY terrible, but what does that have to do with digital download files?

considering how mp3 compression works, then no. as long as u keep the original bitrate set.

The price difference between WAV and mp3 is only about 15 cents on www.Cytopia.org

Bandwidth costs nowadays for a track as FLAC is not many cents.

WAV costs extra a.) because extra GB or TB storage of all WAV files on server costs more b.) because some labels want WAV downloads to cost more than Mp3 downloads.

True, but I would say the order is incorrect.
Take for example a service like Amazon S3 where you can look up the costs yourself.
A GB costs $0.15 a month to store and $0.17 to transfer. I guess you get about 17 tracks as FLAC on a GB and in that case transfer costs $0.01 per track.
Cost for storage of course depends on how many downloads you get per track.
If you got one download per month from a track on average the $0.15 would pretty much cover storage and bandwidth costs...but with reasonable amount of traffic the extra cost for a FLAC compared to an mp3 will be in the region of $0.01-0.02.
$0.15 is very cool anyway...the surcharge on resonantearth is even higher (simply because I haven't gotten around to change prices since back in the time when storage and bandwidth actually was costly).
But the $1 surcharge on beatport is 99% about labels paranoia.

Jah, I thought about the order just after posting..
While the extra space WAV needs is a justifiable reason, practically in our case the extra charge simply represents the labels' wishes.
Not sure how Beatport can justify charging 1 EUR extra for WAV. I do know they manage to pay labels more per download compared to some other shops that sell the same content cheaper. Cytopia.org

layer a wav with a 320 mp3
turn over the phase of one.
listen to what is missing in the mp3 exactly without any senseless speculation.
the only thing which is missing is a little air, air that wont make any difference on 99% of all soundsystems.
how often this needs to be explained.

In a random conversation with a sound engineer once , he told me that one could still play 192 kbps mp3 in a big sound system, and it would still sound ok. Wldnt be able to make out that much of a difference.

Yes, I think the often bad sounding clubs (not acoustically treated) make bigger problems than wav vs mp3 files. And most of the people on the dancefloor don't care anyways.
