one thing i love to hear is those 303ish leads in psytrance. it has a really good sound. i wonder how can i make them? is there some good 303 emulator (not for bass, for leads) or better yet how to make them in vanguard or albino (so i can tweak them to death hehe).
thanks in advance |

I know that the adventus vsti has 2 sweet presets, the acid 303, and the moog 303! Both real good sounding in my opinion.
Not sure how to make it on your own....i'll leave that to the experts
ps. a demo mp3 of the "Acid 303" can be dl. here: http://www.softplug.com/mp3.html |

Hey. How are you getting on with the bass station? Is it the rackmount? I had the rackmount and I found it had a mind of it's own. It kept changing sounds whenever it wanted. Hope its ok for you |

Audirealism kicks ass for acid leads, lfo`s and envelopes are not a rule for leads, i just add some delay and reverb, soemtimes soem distortion and i managed to get some good leads, vanguard is capable of emulating 303 sounds, but audiorealism is pretty decent for the job |

The secret for creating fat organic 303's is in the filter and saturation/distortion. You need a synth with good self oscillating filters. I could never get good results using external filters for 303 sounds.(Antares,Volcano,etc...)
My PoCo Virus can do some seriously brutal screaming with a little bit of disto over the top. Vanguard is also great for that sort of thing and so are some of the other reFX plugs such as Claw and Beast.
Another top synth with an excellent filter is VemberAudio's Surge....one of the best if not THE best VA's currently available. It can do a hell of a lot more than just 303's but it's rather pricy $180US and don't bother searching P2P for it coz you won't find it
Well...not yet anyway
Info : http://www.vemberaudio.se/products.php
In any case...use a good EQ+compression, distortion/saturation and delay/reverb according to taste and position in the mix.

not exactly....
secret of 303 is the inner sequenser
for filter's moog ones r way better than roland
sure 303 have prety good filter but real secret is sequenser
the glide's,hi/low octave and accent can be emulated manualy but 303 make all that in perfect way
like if u work hard on ur ESM line u can make it sound prety close to 303 but 303 makes it way easier
also for distortions......
personaly i dont like the 303 distortion that much... i usualy open on top of 303 one exelent reaktor distortion called TubeType
then its begin to sound realy intresting
PS when i say 303 i mean audiorealism vst and not the hardware 303
just to clear missunderstandings

Easier...?
perhaps for people who find step sequencers easier to program.
But as you said yourself you can achieve the exact same results using your host sequencer rather than using the built-in one. Velocity values will control the accents and overlapping notes will create glides. It just depends on the MIDI data you feed into either sequencer...
Still...without good filters, osc's, fx, etc.. your acid line will sound flat regardless of what sequencer you use.
